We have a ton of brown algae. Tank is a month old now. I read that the brown diatom comes once tanknis cycled. Got some snails and they have been hard cleaning the rocks but there is still so much. Fish only get fed every other day. What can i do to cut back the algae?

Just takes some time. Maybe reduce the white spectrum in your light a bit. Trochus snails are beasts at diatoms if you got some of those. Sounds like your doing good though, just give it a few months to start maturing. :)

A UV Sterilizer should clear it up pretty quick. My 45 gallon QT tank got so bad that it looked like the fish were swimming in mud and I bought a cheap UV Sterilizer at PetSmart for like $45, (Green Killing Machine) and it cleared up in five days. I plan on adding a much better, (and larger) UV Sterilizer in my DT right after the cycle completes.

Is that at the petsmart next to target? In Tucson? That’s a good deal.

Man, I've been missing out because I usually am just focused on getting in and getting what I went for and getting out. I need to hang out for a while and start meeting some women! Lol

Besides the benefit of clearing up the water, UV Sterilizers kill bad bacteria and parasites in the water. I run mine 24/7 in my QT and plan on doing the same in my DT when I set it up. I am not sure why you would limit the amount of time you run it, but it will probably take a lot longer to clear up the water only running it two hours a day.
