I have thr max blue with cree lights. I didnt use the auto settings I set my own. The trick is, as others have noted, dont set the time to your time zone. Thr app will ask, just cancel. It resets as soon as you close the app. There is a small battery inside the lights that may need replaced to hold the change. I just opened my app, hit ignore and looked at the time that is defaulted on the light. I then used that as my current time and set the lights. Easy peasy. You can adjust spectrum individually and dont forget to hit save in the app. Ive had mine for a year with at least 3 power outages and they always get right back to work

There is a time zone setting in the top right menu. Once you set the device to your time zone (UTC-6 in my case) it will update to the correct time and maintain that time.

Not true. Some apparently hold it, but none of mine have.

I got 3 of a8se max version and i've a strange issue with them. Sometimes, the program doesn't update and remains in the previous mode programmed. I have to open the app (the latest version for iPhone) and hit 'save device' for it to update to the right program. But then it just stays on that until I check it again the following hour.
It's like it doesn't save or update the program properly. Is anyone else having this issue?
(i don't have the lights linked because i had to hard reset them some days ago, and to avoid if the link mode can cause issues)

Hello, I have a 450-gallon tank that’s 8 feet x 36 inches x 30 inches. How many of these lights would you recommend? It’s currently a mixed reef, and I may add more SPS in the future. I’ve included a top-view layout in the pic. The blue sections are glass, and the three lines represent 1-inch metal braces.

For a mixed reef with acros you would be good with 6 of them, you could make 5 work if the scape is open. The spread is no different than a real xr-30.

Follow up, what would you recommend for mounting or hanging six of these lights above the tank? Mounting from the ceiling would be easiest. I’m not worried about how it looks since the tank is built into the wall.

I hung mine from the cealing.

I’m planning to hang six of these lights over my 8 ft tank and I’m trying to figure out the best budget-friendly way to do it. I bought the lights with the X mounting kit. I looked at the Ecotech RMS track, but it seems like the 8 ft version can sag a few inches when you use four or more lights.


I’ve also considered using an 8 ft piece of 8020 aluminum T-slot and attaching the lights to it with the X kit.


Are there any other good options for hanging six of these over an 8 ft tank?

Im not an architect but.. I got a 1x4 board from homedepot thats 10' long. I sanded and stained it and attached that to my cealing studs. Then I used the hanging kit that came with my lights, painted a plant hanging screw hook thingy (hope you know what im talking about) screwed that i to my board with anchors and hung them bad boys! Hope this gives you a good idea.

Be careful what seller you pick. I purchased 2 lights from a seller with no issues. The 3rd I got from a different seller and nothing arrived and I'm still trying to get a refund months later. Aliexpress has a real headache available for you when trying to resolve packages that don't arrive. So far I'm out 230 bucks and no light.
