Interesting. I wonder how the app improvements are, and whether the power supply is rated for the full 245w rather than the 200w power supply of the gen 2.

No changes to the app at all its still the same. It's probably a different controller chip in the light that gives it better communication over wifi.

I'm having trouble setting up my A8SE Max II lights with the AIPAI app on android. I installed Version 3.1.78 on my S26. After I add the light following instructions, I keep getting the error message “Data anomaly, APP will restart. When I click confirm it just resets the app. I tried to first change the time zone but the option is not there. Am I missing something? I'm using the eero mesh router and set for 2.4hz during setup. It finds the light and adds it but I when I select it I get the message. Please help.

Exciting news! A8se iii (gen 3) modelled after the xr30 gen 6 is now available. Just ordered one, shipping will be here in a few weeks, here's the comparison from the factory. I will be getting it from the very first batch produced. Bought on Alibaba just gotta ask the sellers of a8se ii for the upgraded model

Good Question, i dont know but i would have definitely got the Gen 3 i seen them on Ali Express but i didnt get any good feedback or response so i just stuck with the Gen 2 Pro Max from Amazon i had them for about a Week now

I have a a8 pro max iii . Just came..seems good however does loose configuration and time if power is lost the the unit. Seems to reconnect to wifi quote easily however if that takes a bit longer to boot then it doesn't seem to retry and runs in default programming. Debating if to buy more or not for my tank build. 10ft x3.5ft x 3ft.

Likely to do with chip efficiency I would think, similar to how the newer gen of noopsyche k7 pro iv compared to gen iii they lowered it to 100 watts in the newer gen (down from 140w) but maintaining par with efficiency.

Par wise on thr a8se iii I was getting 700 par at 15 cm depth mounted light 25cm above water, 350 par on the sandbed at 50cm depth, all channels maxed. Great values for budget light just too bad it lasted all about 2 weeks before the main blue channel blew out due to common soldering issues that a8 cheaps out on. Will likely be going back to radions for longevity durability reasons. Power supply I received was rated for 200w.

I actually did some more playing around with the light yesterday to simulate blackout etc.

It seems upon powerloss then restart without network connection the light defaults to utc+8 and runs that schedule, it seems to have a real time clock to follow but it loose the time zone. I worked this out by putting the light on its own vlan and blocking its access to the internet and you can read the html config page where it prints the lights time. when internet access opened back up the light corrects itself.

Further to this, a power failure where the light starts before the network will put it stuck in its fallback state and it doesn't seem to try to connect to the network again, a simple power cycle of the light seems to resolve this. No need to open the app at all.

I was testing this along side my g6 radions xr30 blues. I was running the radions at 75% all channels, for the exact same par from this light I had the white channels at 25% and all others at 50%. Measured using an apogee mq510.

Price wise, in Australia radions are going for $1800 now, I got this light for $545 landed, however prices now have dropped to $445.

Is a Radion worth 4x as much as a a8? Probably not.

It's true there are some trade-offs with these lights, but there is no way I'll pay what Radion's sell for. I've had my A8 PRO II Max's for 1 1/2 years running continuously. Early on, I found that app and firmware updates improved some of the minor issues. Similarly, I've found that when I kill the power to the lights and restore, occasionally one of my 3 will come back on at 100% lights and fan. A power cycle resolves the issue back to the app settings. Also, occasionally one of the lights will move 2 hours forward. No idea why. Opening the app corrects the time issue. For these reasons I don't make changes while away from home. But, I feel this is a small price to pay when the lights cost 1/3rd what some other lights cost.

I've seen a lot of discussion regarding the power supplies where folks discuss the power available from the stock power supply. I started with the OEM power supplies and they have run the light at ~80% daily for the 1 1/2 years. I have them mounted in a ventilated cabinet where they are mounted. Last time I tested PAR, I had the lights at less than 80% and still got 600+ near the top of my live rock.

The Gen2 lights (and I'm assuming the Gen3 as well) have a CR1220 battery that can be accessed by removing the outer housing. You might try replacing it to maintain the real time clock during power loss.

I just bought 10 of the Gen3's for my 10' build. Will update how they do once I get it all up and going :). I currently have 2 gen 2's on my 5' tank and they have had zero issues, even with occasional power loss.

I have 4x of these on my WB330, the power supplies do run hot, I am in the process of cooling them with a 120mm fan to increase longevity.

Anyone have a link for the meanwell or the generic to keep as a back up?

-regular (non-meanwell) PS are cooled by CPU fan

No idea about PAR, will place iphone in ziploc and check with the app.

No way it'll be the same cost. Landed its $2400 for all 10...and they aren't 5 years old lol.

I was debating meridians - I figured its not that much to risk / re-sell if I don't like them plus when RB announced the whole subscription fee I was like f it, easy decision.

g5's are going for 450-550 each AUD. a8 pro max iii also 450-550 landed. But new light is very nice idea. I am leaning towards the a8's and can sell off my 4x g6 blues and cover a good chuck of the cost.
