I have a 40 breeder that had become a total nightmare a few months after setting up. I lost everything likely to instability and really prolific dinoflagellates. I let it sit for 3+ months with next to no intervention. It got covered in algae’s and largely seems to be balancing out. I’m doing a 5 gallon WC today and getting ready for a box of TBS sand coming in 2 weeks.

My question is what’s my easiest route to get my alk up to 7-9 range without doing a monster water change? I do have all for reef on a doser at my disposal.

I intend keeping it within that range and currently my only inhabitants are 2 clowns, snails and crabs.

Food grade sodium bicarbonate, from your kitchen.

Use this calculator to determine how much. Dissolve in ro/di and add to a high flow area. Raise it over several days to a week. There is no rush.
