Alkalinity overdose, is this emergency???

Hello all!!
I’m Freaking Out….need some help, please! Yesterday while doing maintenance, I somehow hit the override button on my timer for my dosers.. So today I realize that I dosed the remainder amount of ESV alkalinity from the reservoir to the sump!

It raised the alk reading from 9.1 to 18.7. I had 10 gallons ready for a water change (I have 90 gal display with 30 gal sump), so I did that change. It brought the alk down to 17.2. This also raised my pH from 8.4 to 8.6 (after water change).

I know this will come down in time and I’m fine with waiting if my fish will be ok.

What do you all think? I know I shouldn’t change anything rapidly. I just don’t want to lose my fish…so far everything looks normal, no displays of distress.

And since I just discovered this error, the parameters have been high all day.

Fish should be fine

Do a large water change and bring it down. Nothing to freak out about if its just fish in the tank.

It will very quickly come down. Maybe in just a day or two.

Just curious why your even bothering to dose alk if you have no coral?

Thank you all. There are corals in there as well. LPS and softies. My greatest concern today were the fish, in particular a Potter’s Angel I’ve had for a long time. Thank you for chiming in Randy!

I totally understand. While i like my coral I consider them similar to underwater plants. My fish are my buddies.

That’s right! The fish don’t frustrate me as much as the corals do and the corals don’t follow me around the tank

If there are no signs of precipitation I'd be surprised if the Alk is that high.

In any event if you only have fish they will be fine.

Just let Alk decline naturally or with normal water changes.
