Hi guys. My tank is a 9x2.5x2.5 sps dominated tank. Currently have around 40 small sps colony,
I’m currently dosing 210ml afr a day. From what I know, afr does contain the tropic Marin element A and K. But recently my lfs advice to dose additional element A and K as afr dosage is too low, I’m from Malaysia and it’s not easy to get an icp test . Anyone with experience on this? Should I be dosing additional without knowing what elements I’m lacking?

Are you running an algae scrubber or refugium? Then maybe a mild dose of captiv8 isol mt might not be too bad. My all for reef does not keep up with needs for iodine iron manganese and some others so I dose isol mt. But I also get icp testing done so that makes a diff

I think you are correct, dosing too much would be as bad as dosing too little.

With AFR and water changes you will be replacing some elements, even if you were to find the perfect amount of extra elements to add, it’s only going to make a marginal difference, so yes I would wait until you know for sure if adding more elements is going to help…maybe doing the odd extra water change could be helpful.

I bought the Red Sea elements kit to test for potassium, iron, and iodine. This allows me to know when iron is depleted for example and then I dose for companion elements based on iron consumption. I’ve been finding that my tank gets depleted of iron and manganese for example but iodine and potassium have been at normal levels. Also an AFR user.

My lfs advice me to dose quarter of the recommended dosage. At least it helps replenish a little. Not sure if it’s a good idea

I use RedSea kits as well and have never had issues with them
