Hey all

I hear Maxima clams are harder to keep than Derasa Clams.

I've had my Derasa for about 7 months now, grew quite a bit and always open and full, which tells me it's perfectly happy with my lighting and setup.

I want a maxima clam.. would they fare well in the same setting as a Derasa?

4-bulb T5, supplemented with SBar Actnics Sbreeflight

Maximas like to be in the rocks with lots of light, so just keep an eye on it and move it around until you find a spot it likes a lot. Move it around slowly though, take a couple days to figure out if it's a good spot and such. Check for pyramid snails too!

I'll give it a shot. Will have to find a nice one.. one more piece to check off my wishlist, lol

I already have a "cupped" rock for the clam
Good luck! Be sure to post pictures of it later!

thanks! It'll be some time before I get one!

I do want to get a larger one. I hear smaller ones require feedings
Usually LFS don't sell Maxima or any clams under 1 inch in size, most of the time clams are 2~3 inches for small one and 4~6 inches for large one, because common sense that they don't have time to feed them regularly and they don't want to lose money with baby clam. However, online store tent to sell extreme small sizes clams so if you stay away from them then you should be fine.

Agreed. Some have no problems with the small ones but i've always gotten them above 3". I think youd be good for the maxima, go for it!
