CURRENT DOSING ROUTINE (06/21/2018)

Here as requested by a few members and followers my current dosing routine as of today: 303.8G / 1150L Water Volume considered for Trace Element dosing

No Water Changes performed / Minor salinity increases with dry salt / 5-1/2 months old

Here is also the link to the ATI Lab tank which should allow access to all test results and diagrams etc.
http://lab.atiaquaristik.com/timeline/8842

ALK/CA/MG and other traces via Calcium reactor, second chamber filled with Reborn

Rubidium 0.009 ppm or mg/L daily
I will see how the trending goes with ICP's forward.
From previous ICP it was not detectable, and I started with an initial dose of 0.2mg/L
I will send an ICP to the Oceamo lab next week. They are the only one who do Rb detection in the required resolution and ranges.

Barium 5.22 microgram/L daily
I will see how the trending goes with ICP's forward.
This is a new increased dosage, since the previous dosage doesn't seem to be enough and Barium seem to drop quite excessive. Last ICP indicated 11 microgram/L but I did dose 12 microgram/L the day before the sample was taken since I noticed white tips on some specific acros indicating depleted Barium.
Barium always depleted down to 2-3 microgram/L, hence my theory is that the daily depletion may be in the 5-6 range daily when corals are thriving.

Manganese 0.09 microgram/L daily, still not detectable in ICP's
Not sure if it does anything visibly but I keep dosing it.
Zoa's, Shrooms and LPS seem to react to it very positive.

Iodine Seachem 7 drops daily
I use the straight glass pipe dropper for essential oils, available on Amazon.

Cobalt 0.017 microgram/L daily
Still undetectable on ICP

Copper 0.017 microgram/L daily
Still undetectable on ICP

Zinc 0.17 microgram/L daily
Will watch trending via ICP
Fluctuates pretty easily depending on growth and system operation

Nickel 0.017 microgram/L daily
Will watch trending via ICP
Seem to have larger influence on fluorescence

Iron Fe
Tried 0.46 microgram/L daily first, but was too much
Tried 0.093 then, still seemed to much
Tried 0.019 daily, which seems to be ok, or rather not enough.
Doing now 0.047 daily, time will tell.

Chromium 0.017
Initial dosage of 0.36 microgram/L,
Waiting for ICP to see trending.
Seems to have an effect on blue and fluorescence

Vanadium I do 3 drops of the Triton Vanadium daily.
Not sure how much that would be, haven't calculated the dosage into microgram/L

Fluoride,
I do corrections after ICP and plan to estimate a maintenance dose when I have more clarity on depletion rate.
Need more ICP's done first.

Molybdenum, Boron, Bromine, Strontium, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium
corrected after each ICP as needed.

No3/Po4 as needed.

So, some folks may think that is far too much work to maintain these numbers.
Honestly the daily dosage takes less than 3 minutes and is done easily and quick.

And that is the only thing I really do on the tank nowadays, alongside feeding and cleaning the glass every 3 days. Well then also cleaning the skimmer here and there when I can smell it in the entire house, lol.

Kind of getting bored on maintenance o_O

Got my ICP back and were surprised unfortunately.
My Bromine levels did not drop further below 100 where I wanted it to be, but increased with no dosing of anything that contains this element to 120

After checking everything out is seems that the Magnesium media, which I have filled up a second chamber of the Calcium reactor with, does not just includes Mg, Ca and carbonates .........
Apparently using this media in the last chamber is too much and causes other elements to increase too dramatically.

That is truly annoying now since Bromine took forever to deplete on his own from 120 a few months back to slightly above 100 from a previous test, and now it bumped up again because of this!

So I decided to reactivate my Salinity control system and will simply add dry salt to the tank, while the Apex and Booster pumps in conjunction with a Temp compensated Salinity monitoring probe as well the ATO will maintain a constant salinity. Means simply water changes to reduce the Bromine level that way. Just ordered a new probe and plenty of new DI resin to run the system for about two weeks and basically do daily an automated water change of about 5% with a salt that contains low Bromine levels.

@dbigfoot111
Nem baby arrived ;-)
Not the best picture but kind of gives an idea.

Even while this an SPS dominated system, all Softies and even all Zoa's are seem to react very positive to addition of Manganese,Rubidium, Cobalt, Chromium, Nickel and Zinc.

All right, first time test sent out to Oceamo in Austria for ICP testing.
This is being done to see where my Rubidium levels are since these guys test for Rb appropriate as part of their ICP's while ATI does not and will not.
They should be available soon in the US as well.

So before I start to install temporary my equipment to get Bromine down, I wanted to get the test out prior the start before the water chemistry changes and would have influenced my Rubidium dosing/test results.

Also finally finished my calculator for dosing all sorts of trace elements…………..
Can't believe I did not do this earlier, so much easier now ;-)

See above a portion of it to get the point of it.

THX a lot Randy for the idea !!!

Lol. Don’t think so! Just maybe a bit more eager on s*** as others ;-)

Believe it or not, I’ve never even visited any Reef Show !!!
Been asked to speak in local clubs but I find hardly any time to do such a thing.

May need to start some videos.
I always loved watching Newyorksteelo videos on you tube.

Not the prettiest installation but functional.
All done and set……………

Let the automated Water change begin :p

This is the Booster pump that does pump out water from the sump into the drain when salinity gets over the setpoint.
The Solenoid is just to hold water in the line when the pump turns off so the pump does not run dry.

Dang simple, just a jar with dry salt. This will increase the salinity above a setpoint.
If that happens, the waste pump will pump water out of the tank until the ATO will trigger to refill.
This is done until salinity is diluted below setpoint.
Actually a water change!

Here is the code for the waste pump.
It can only pump for 30 seconds and then it will take a few minutes and the salinity will be verified again and the ATO has time to refill .

This is from my previous tank the best solution and the salinity swings are extremely low!!!

Salinity is on Condx5, pretty low still.
Will slowly get back up to 32-33 somewhere.
Another good reason for a salinity probe ;-)
