Hey everyone. I'm really bummed. I just got an anemone last night, not sure what kind. The guy at the LFS told me but I'm drawing a blank, probably because I'm so sad. I woke up this morning after acclimating the nem last night and my six line wrasse was right next to it, in half. I assume this means the anemone ate it right? I'm really sad about it.

Anyway, I also have a bonus question. I'm not sure if I should put this anemone in a certain spot or not. The guy at the LFS had all his kind of buried in the sand they had but mine is a much finer grate of sand and I can't really bury it without damaging it. Will the anemone find its own spot? Like bury itself into the sand or go where it wants to go? Thanks everyone.

Most likely the fish wasn't well if the nem got it. Yes, leave the nem alone to find a spot it likes. You'll stress it out if you move it around.

I'm not even 100% sure why it died and if it was the nem. I just don't see any other logical reason that the wrasse would be cut right in half

If it's a tube anemone, you can use a piece of PVC pipe to help you bury it in the sand and it makes it much easier. Just realize that the tentacles can stretch out real long so placement is important. It's almost ridiculous actually. I kept mine in the corner of my tank but had to re-home it eventually because it started to over take too much real estate. And Like you, I lost my mandarin. It went missing for a couple days and then I spotted its half digested body next to the anemone one day. If fish get chased or spooked near the tentacles, fish don't really stand a chance. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your 6 line, that stinks. I lost mine to a power head in his temporary home last week. Those guys are awesome.

Can you post a pic of your anemone?

I had something similar happen about 6 months ago when I made the mistake of putting a purple fire fish in the same tank as a dottyback and it did not last more than 1 hour after putting it in. The lights went off and the dottyback went on a search and destroy mission. I walked past my tank to see the firefish missing the entire back end sitting in the mouth of my rock nem.

these are the best pics I could do. Btw just took the six line out and it wasn't if half just buried under the sand. Still dead though and still just weird timing that it was next to the nem. Possibly could have been stung or is this just a coincidence? If anyone can ID this anemone and tell me about it, that would be greatly appreciated

That's definitely a tube anemone. I don't know a ton about them, but like @Mike J. said, you can use a piece of PVC to help bury them in the sand. The 6 line probably got too close.

Can anyone tell me what's up with my anemone? Is it dead? It's tentacles were thicker and longer and had some color to it when it put it in 4 days ago and it didn't have that long black/purple foot sticking out until last night either. What's wrong with it?

Tube anemones pack a potent sting. That's most likely what happened.

What lighting are you running. If it's losing color you may not have enough light.

Well that shouldn't be an issue unless you're running it too low.
Do you have any suggestions on what to run the settings on? I've always wondered what would be the best for my tank. It's an IM40 cube

That tank is probably a little big for that light but not by much. I looked at your other thread about cloudy water and it doesn't look like you have much in there. I would SLOWLY ramp up the power over the course of a couple weeks and observe the corals. If anything (besides the anemone) starts losing color you need to back off. The anemone may take a while to color up if it does at all. It may be too far gone. You could try feeding it. I'd use a high quality frozen food like LRS Reef Frenzy.
