Anemone getting bleached help.

Can someone help meh. I've had a green bta that was this wonderful light green color with purple dots at the tip and its starting to get this ugly bleached brown color. I reduced lighting a good amount in the tank and I'm going to start feeding Krill once a week. Any suggestions on what i should do to get it looking healthy again?

Tentacles aren't stick really didn't grab onto food so I held it by its mouth till it opened up and ate the Krill

Lately i have been reading alot about BTAs and bleaching. Seems that is can be a number of things. Your water parameters, the flow, the lighting, feeding, etc. I think we need to know more about your tank.

Reducing your lighting is the last thing I'd do. Although BTAs are not as needy as most other anemones, they still need lots of light. If they are getting too much, you will know because they will move until they are in a shaded part. However, mine is directly under LEDs at about 600 PAR and is loving it. Definitely feed it, but I'm not sure how much good krill will do. Try mysis if you have it.

Are you sure that it is bleaching? You say brown, which sounds like it is darker than what it currently is. Light green is not normally a good color for a BTA. It's possible that the green was a bleached color and it is slowly getting healthy again. It might actually be a bleached RBTA.

Yeah. mine got bleached then moved under a rock. No it was deff a green bta because They hada whole shipment of them at my LFs. It used to be this great bright green wiht purple tips and now is translucent brown

Tank 34 gallons parameters alk8kh Salinity 36ppt nitrates almost zero ammonia undetectable. Calcium 500ppm. Lighting built in metal hailides on my solana.

It was a darkish color before didnt look at all bleached. Cpu has adobe photo player so i need to either subscribe or download a new thingy. The color went from dark to all ugly see through brown and now its getting green again

Agreed both with pictures and color!! It would help us out. Your parameters seem ok....what kind of flow you have in there??

I would say feed it some mysis shrimp or even a small piece for fresh fish like perch, not feeder goldfish. Make sure the piece is 1/2 inch square or smaller and that it does eat it. You could do this once or twice a week along with ensuring the mysis shimp gets to it.

I've been feeding Krill because its the only bigger stuff beside mysis I feed my goby firefish and clowns eat some. I always make sure the nem gets the krill but if it doesnt get mysis i dont make a big deal because it gets Krill

Here are the poblems with bleaching anemones IMO.

1)Low Lighting
2)Old Bulbs
3)Water Quality is off
4)Food or quality of the food is low

Thats your top resons for the bleaching of an anemone.

The problem that generally happens is low lighting which is the cause of the zoo plankton looksing its coloration or the colored pigments.There are a few ways to fix it,and the best way to fix it it to generally replace the bulbs and get new ones or feed better foods to build the strength of the anemone up.

I need to see your nitrite levels though,could be going the cycle and stuck in the nitrite phase,which is a good assumption considering you are cleaning to often.

I an guessing either up the lighting cycle or something is going screwy in your tank parameters... like stated by clowns I feel food is the last issue. Start soaking your krill in selcon I heard that helps.. my last rbta I stopped feeding because it split to dam much.. and it was really healthy.. aclimate a higher light cycle since its stressed already

dude from lfs told me i wouldnt need a kit and I'd only have to test it once a month. I have a another more reliable dude from my lfs takin care of my tank while im gone so I'll have him test and see what he can do

I was also told that they didn't HAVE to be fed and would do fine if I didn't. I didn't and it kept moving around. It ended up in a cave. Its come out now though

You need to test every thing once a week.And your Ca,Alk,and Mg daily to keep a healthy reef.

Get the test kit from Red Sea or Salifert and test it...very important.
