Got this in tank yesterday and it was opening really well. Today not so much. Also expelling pink stringy stuff. Help?

Need much more information, tank parameters, age, lighting setup and schedule is a good place to start.

They open and close based on feeding and taking in fresh water. As for the string stuff is coming from the center, this would be its waste. There mouth and butt is the same hole.
