Hi, can anyone ID this? I contacted the seller and they didn’t know the species. Thanks!

It will be arriving in a few hours. So I’ll check. Those get really big....
Yes they do. If you feed them, they get bigger quicker. They do not need to be fed to live. This guy below is in a 7’x3’x1.5’ tank. He is under about 550 par, so isn’t as expanded as he could be and is over 18”. He was almost 24” when in another tank where he could only get on a rock that was about 350 par.

Beautiful! It’s going in a 150 for now. I know those are in the carpet nem family....but not as sticky as some? Is that right? Major worries on being a fish eater?
They are sticky and will eat fish if it swims into them. 150 is fine, but they will walk around at first. Be sure powerheads have guards and do not turn them off to let it settle. If you turn them off while it settles, it will just move when turned back on.

if you do not have guards, diy ones are cheap and easy. Plus once settled, as long as you do not make any major changes, they typically do not move.

It doesn’t have the spots like a Mertens....any other ideas?
It is a little PO’d so give it a bit. When my big one got moved and shrunk up, you couldn’t see the spots.

Although it does almost look like a Stichodactyla helianthus.

let it open up a little and then get me some pics of the oral disk. From that I can tell for sure. All about the ratio of it to the foot lol.

Looks like this is as comfortable as she’s going to get today. I guess she doesn’t like this WI weather (can’t fault her for that). Idk if these pics are helpful or not.

I agree that the oral disk looks the most like a Mertens of all the pics I can find. I don’t yet see any orange or magenta spots on the foot, but I can now see some bumps underneath the oral disk...

It does look like a merten, but I won’t be by APC for quite a while, so hopefully Orion can chime in.

Hopefully these help, I was able to get a pic of the foot under the oral disc. There are raised bumps that are slightly darker in color than the foot itself. It didn’t feel sticky and I didn’t feel a sting, but I checked after I pulled it out of the water for the pic and stressed it out.
