Anemones & Butterflies

I have an interesting one.

I have a RBTA & Colorado Sunburst. Each has a pair of clowns hosting. Unfortunately the RBTA which I’ve had for 13 years has been getting beaten up by a Double Saddle BF & an Auriga BF.

I’m going to have to remove.. the Colorado SB is doing great though, and the BF don’t touch it… so, what Anemone should I replace the RBTA with? Any ideas? Maybe a Gigantae is more less appealing to BF’s? (Need a nem for that pair of clowns).

Imo butterflies and nems don't mix
But If u do wanna keep it if the clowns host the anemone generally the bfs stay away but I've had a copper band eat a haddoni so I would say they're not bothered by the sting much if they decide they wanna eat it

Ok, i don’t know what butterflies eat exactly, but i do know that my clowns host my duncans and my gonis. So you probably do not necessarily need a new nem

Yea Once they start there is no stopping them tho since they stay away from your Sb anemone u could try a Gig or a Mag and see how it goes but there's a bit if risk involved still

I think the safest way is to get a nem that will eat the butterflies and then replace them with a new BTA.

straight up diabolical lol
Gigs and mags do look awesome imo even if they don't have good colours

I’ll update once I try a gig and let you know how it goes.. worst case, maybe another CSB seeing as that seems to be off the menu at this moment

Oooo do update if u get a gig the clowns may host that right of the bat or maybe a mag

Butterflies are hit or miss when it comes to anemones -- any type. I took a risk and had a longnose butterfly with my gigs until it disappeared one day. I knew that one day it might start to pick on my nems, and then I'd have to remove it. Long story short, if you try to mix, don't get too attached to either the butterfly or the anemone. If you really do care for one over the other, just opt to have that one in your tank and not the other.

Regarding gigs, and to a lesser extent mags, they're extremely rare and acclimation is typically difficult. Once you have a happy gig (or mag) it'd be a huge shame to have your butterflies beat it up or kill it.
