Another Household Electrical Project...

So I have this idea...

I have a Honda 3000is for power outages. And I would like to make it available to the furnace in my home.

So my idea is to add a connection between the main on/off switch and the furnace. This would allow me to plug the furnace in to the generator when the power goes out.

In the past, I've received good household electric advice here. Thought I'd go to the well again...

Yes.

I wanted to use a switch, but, I'm thinking I'll wire in a 3 prong male plug between the switch and the furnace. Now when the power goes out, I can turn off the switch and plug in an extension cord from the generator to the furnace.

Another option you have is to purchase a Generlink. It a device you attach to your electric meter which has a plug. In case of a power outage, all you do is fire up your generator, plug it in and flip off any breakers that would overload the generator. You now have power to your house.
