So I used to change my water out once a month do about 30 to 40% water change I decided to wait until two months. since I've waited everything is been doing much better the mushrooms are opening up bigger. I just want to see what everyone's opinion was about that how frequently or infrequently do you do a water change

I never change water unless corals start looking bad. I dose alk, mag, ca, kent essential, and iodine as directed. I'd say I do about 20% water change twice a year max and coral look great. If I have a death or polyps not extending as much as usual then I will do a water change. Make sure to match the salinity perfectly as well as temp and then add it slowly and shouldnt change anything.

By holding off on the water change your tank may have evolved into an environment that just suits certain corals better. Has there been any variations in your parameters lately? (nitrates in particular) What other corals do you have in the tank besides the mushrooms?

You might want to look into bacterial blooms. This will cause the water to look a little hazy sometimes. GL.

How often you need to do water changes depends on any number of parameters. Your husbandry methods are important. I have known people who are scrupulous about husbandry who really seldom do much in the way of water changes.

The demands of your corals and inverts is important. Some people replace nutrients that are taken up with regular dosing.

There are so many variables involved that the water change schedule that would be ample in one system would be asking for a catastrophe in another.

For the people that don't do water changes how do you keep your salinity stable ?
Salt only comes out when you remove water manually. It does not evaporate out. I use an ATO to maintain level and salinity stability.

I understand that. So you are saying by only adding rodi water with you ato does not dilute your salinity at all with you doing no water changes ?

That's correct. Assuming you simply replace the evaporated water with the same volume of RODI water, there is no change in salinity. Now there are factors like salt creep, water tests, etc that will mean you are taking salt out from time to time but that's a small volume relative to most systems.

Not knocking it I do water changes every week I just found it odd that someone that does no water changes never have adjust salinity

You inevitably will at some point. You can calculate how much salt is needed fairly easily.
