How's the happy family going Humble?? Everyone settled in nicely?

So, 1 week update and we might have messed up. :( My wife saw some fleas on one of the kittens (mama still goes potty outside), and after doing some online research it seemed using food grade diatomaceous earth was the safest treatment. So, we sprinkled some in their bedding and my wife rubbed some on the kittens + mama. I vacuumed the carpet their bed is on and then sprinkled diatomaceous earth on that as well.

Well, momma has been acting very unsettled ever since and we are worried the kittens may no longer be nursing on her. They still look/feel fat, but I'm wondering if maybe the DE messed up mama's smell and vice versa. Or the nipples taste bad because they're coated with DE now. She's been spending a lot more time away from her kittens today and just seems restless. So we did everything we could to get rid of the DE: Changed out the bedding again, vacuumed the carpet, and my wife has been trying to brush the DE out of their fur. (Kinda scared to give them all a bath being so young.)

We got a bottle + formula in case we have to take over feeding. Hopefully everything settles back down. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Keep us posted. I hope she doesn’t get too upset about the changes. Fleas are frikin terrible. De works ok on them... not great. But ok. The most important for their health is to feed. Even with a couple fleas on them they will be ok. If you worry about them getting into the rest of the house you can put that de around the outside of their area. A flea comb and dawn dish soap are great tools for managing fleas. Comb the babies.Mom too if she will let you. Then put any you comb out into a bowl with water and soap to kill them.

The best thing to do is get them scented up with each other again and maybe give everyone a once over with a damp cloth to clean them off a bit too.

Given they're still nursing, just stick with the flea comb portion of this video but The Kitten Lady is one of the best sources of info you'll come across for your situation!

@Wrangy Thanks so much for the video!!! :)

The good news is both kittens had a full belly when we examined them this morning, and my wife said two nipples on the momma cat had recently been sucked on.

I'm really glad to hear that and everyone is looking fantastic! Nothing better than kittens with fat bellies! And I'm glad mumma has settled down again :)

Just as a side note, I would avoid using any flea treatments on mum as you wouldn't want the chemicals to pass on to the kittens through the milk which might be dangerous. As @Johniejumbo said a small dish with some water and dish soap in it will help control the fleas and stop the spread of them in your house too :)

A couple of days ago I shared a picture of my Glass Cages office co-worker. Bob, very special rescue kitty.

I also want to share that we have a very tight security system here. Our Security Officer's picture is below. We are well protected.

Is that a yawn or a yowl?

hmmmm..... what you believe it is, it is.

Good stuff. Thumbs_up.png

cats love long car rides!

Unfortunately, we'll be driving around A LOT, staying in hotels, etc. We even had plans to spend time in Europe, but that may be on hold now. Hell, everything might be on hold thanks to coronavirus. :(

So, I've got a mama cat that I think is getting ready to go into labor. She's a stray, but my wife & I have been feeding her for the past year and trying to tame her. She mostly lives outside, but we keep her inside when it gets really cold. Anyway, she's been meowing like crazy all morning so I think it might be time to have her kittens (photos below).

We are preparing a "nest" aka bedding for her in case she decides to have her kittens indoors. But is there anything else we should be doing? TIA
