Hey any golfers here? :D

I have played for several years, but just a few times a year so I consider myself a big noob. Anyway I am looking to get a whole set of decent clubs that will not break the bank, but I want something nicer than the walmart clubs.

Any suggestions?

I golfed with some Atom hybrids this summer and they were awesome. The woods are so much easier to hit. Had a great time with them. We played a crazy mountain course in NE Kentucky, lots of hills and tough shots, and still shot my best game ever.

Golfsmith has trade ins. You can get a top of the line set for less than 1/2 price. Key is get measured and have your swing speed checked so you get the correct shaft for you. I second Golfsmith, or Carls Golf Land, but I think Carls might be in my area only?

A set of trade-ins would work, but alot of last year's model new sets will be on sale (At least around here in the cold states)

For Irons you should get something with a deep cavity back thats more forgiving and has a wider sole. Don't get blades if you only play a few times a year, way less forgiving.

I saw last years Nike Slingshot OSS' (Iron set w/ Hybrids) on sale for around $350 a couple months ago. Then you could piece your Woods. Taylormade Tour Burner Driver was on sale for around $150 ( I picked one up and its been great)

I ended up picking up the Mizunos MX-200's this Spring and they are the best Irons i've hit so far.

I play Taylor Made RAC OS irons, R580 driver. I have had them for about 6 years. I love them. You can go to most of the golf courses and play their demo sets. That way you get a true feel for how the clubs fit you.

Agree with Viva. Get Cavity back, more forgiving.

e-bay for the best deals and it's not even close. Just do your homework before hand. I got a brand new custom fit combo set of Mizuno mp-52/62 earlier this year for $535 shipped. At the time brand new sets were going for ~1k at my local golf mart.

I'm a mizzy loyalist and have hit mizuno irons my entire life, so I'm a bit biased in my opnion. Mizuno mx-200's are a great set of game improvement irons for sure. You may want to look inot the mx-100s too, a little easier to hit. Any game improvement(larger cavity back) iron from one of the major manufacturers should fit the bill, you just have to go out and hit em all and see what you like best. Then shop for the best deals online. Some places will price match anything you can find online, though. Just shop around.

Adams golf is another great company that makes really good game improvement stuff.

I got a set of Nike slingshot irons off of ebay. Came out to be a really good deal. They were BNIB, exactly as advertised.

I'm not a good player by any means, but I certianly enjoy a cold beer and a good cigar while losing golf balls on a nice afternoon.

+1. I got my complete set of Taylor made irons, driver, 3, rescue BNIB for under $600. At the time, the driver alone was selling for $250 at *****.
