Any idea if my Kole tang has something?

My Kole tang is very skittish and slow to eat. It only eats mysis and flake food and Nori pellets. It picks at film algae all day and eats fish poop [emoji50]. I’ve tried feeding LRS but it’s hit or miss with it. It does eat Nori pellets but it’s been hard to feed Nori pellets because they are tiny and the clownfish eat them all before it gets to it. It would go crazy for Nori pellets in QT when it would eat alone. It would also look at me for food in QT. It does not eat Nori sheets - all my fish eat Nori sheets [emoji50]. In the DT it sticks to the rocks and swims low to mid level during feeding. It’s been in my display for 2 months.

It’s the most timid fish in my tank and always looks skinny with a pitched stomach. When I first put it in QT it had clear poop they I used metro to clear. The clear poop hasn’t reappeared but it has had nipped fins that have been healing.

I just feel that it’s not doing well in my tank. It does eat but it’s just a slow eater. It was QT’ed for 45 days with CP, Prazi, and Metro. It eats the least of all my fish and I feel it should be the most aggressive fish in the tank given the rep of tangs.

My most “aggressive” fish are an orchid dottyback and Melanarus wrasse. It’s a pretty chill tank and 125G.

2 months in display tank. I’m getting more pics right now. Near impossible to get a good shot because it just hides all the time when I get close to take a picture

Mine took about 4 weeks to start eating frozen in my tank and also wouldn’t eat sheet algae. He has finally become comfortable and is eating like a champ now! All through it he stayed fat scraping the back glass which I don’t clean. He still does this but I think it doesn’t grow fast enough for him so he decided to eat other stuff.

It looks like it's a juvenile and it's a little thin, but not terrible. From the looks of it, your tank looks very young. Might be a little difficult for it to find enough film algae for a while.

I would continue to provide nori every day and the LRS reef frenzy.

You could try soaking the frozen in selcon to get it eat more.

I add selcon to any mysis shrimp I feed. I don’t use selcon for LRS though

Yes the tank is young. It was a complete dry start that has been running 6 months. I leave film algae on the back for it to pick at.

I get some medium sized Nori pellets for it from hakari. The small pellets I feel are to small for it

Update - the larger Nori pellets have helped. Most of the other fish leave them alone once they hit the sand and Kole eats them up. He finally doesn’t look skinny anymore [emoji16]
