Any ideas on how to remove an impossibly tight barb on an AquaMaxx GFO filter?

I purchased an AquaMaxx GFO and Carbon Filter Media Reactor Package w/ Pump and Tubing (all-in-one kit) from Marine Depot and it arrived today.

So here's the deal... the AquaMaxx comes with two sets of barbs... 1/2 and 3/4... it looks like the 3/4 barbs were pre-installed on the unit, but they shipped 1/2 inch tubing with their packaged deal.

I have spent the last hour trying to get the 3/4 barbs off this thing and they haven't budged at all. I've even tried with a wreck and pliers... nothing.

I'm at the point where I'm starting to wonder if this thing is glued-in.

Do any of you happen to have any suggestions? Thanks.

It says they have nuts on the underside of the lid.

At this time, the included hosebarbs may be switched from 3/4” to 1/2” by unscrewing the hosebarbs’ fasteners from beneath the lid, then pressing the hosebarb upward out of its hexagonal recess

That’s all it was... it came right off.
