I've cut rock using a bandsaw and a diamond tipped blade on a table saw. Both came out decent.

I just got done cutting some pieces of regular "reef saver" rock with a sawzall and a 8" blade designed for metal. It left paint fragments but I gave a quick muriatic acid dip afterwards anyway.

I just used a fine tooth hack saw with water and it worked out really. As I cut my wife slowly poured water into the cut to clean out the blade flutes. Squared up about 100 lbs of rock on one blade, most reef “rock” isn’t very hard and it’s very porris.

I haven’t cut any. But I have used hammer, dropped it and used air chisel to shape or tunnel holes.

Why not just order some shelf rock? I got 10 lbs. of AquaMaxx dry Tonga shelf from Marine Depot and it is excellent rock.

Used a hammer and chisel to break a couple up pretty easily. Curing it now. After a 20:1 RO/DI:bleach soak and then RO/DI soaking for a month Phosphates are measuring about 0.10-0.13ppm each week (Hanna ULR).

Put away the chisel and hammer. Hacksaw, Dremel with masonry bit, and a drill or screwgun with masonry bit are all you need. A chisel is unnecessary with those three, and is more prone to accidentally breaking a piece you wanted intact.

Marco Rock was the first to offer cut shelf rocks I believe.

He had some good advice in a thread here or over on RC a while back.

Angle grinder with a 4 1/2 or 5'' blade is the cheapest option. Just do this outside lol
