For a 65g mixed tank. Anything reef safe that doesnt get too big for a 65g?

Purple Reef lobsters are technically reef safe with corals, and some people get lucky with docile ones.
But all lobsters can be unpredictable and if you have small fish or shrimp, you may wake up with sliced fins or a dead animal.
Coral banded shrimp are cool and somewhat lobster like when they get large. They are a much safer option.

I had a purple reef lobster rip the head off a medium size fish and carry it around like a trophy!

You dont want them as cool as it sounds. There are dwarf hawaiian species but they are not to be trusted. Looking much like a miniature Maine Lobsters, they fool reefers by remaining peaceful by day, only to hunt down small slumbering fishes at night. Dwarf lobsters are highly territorial, and will treat other lobster species and large shrimps, as well as their own kind, as intruders.
