Any thoughts?

My tank is freshly new. My lfs had this coral and I was informed it was a hammer head. Lfs reports it hasn’t opened for about a week. They gave this to me for free. It’s starting to slowly open.

Your new tank probably has correct parameters needed currently. Lfs probably has low ph, alkalinity and trace elements because they don’t do maintenance often enough. You’ll need to maintain stability. What are your concerns?

You may want to remove the asterina stars from the base, they might be causing irritation. Some folks don't mind having them in the tank and some do, but if you don't get them while you can, they multiply quickly :-)

O yeah I got those little stinkers outta there. I’m just not exactly sure what it is. They told me it was a hammer head of some kind. I think it might be a Duncan? Not sure. It’s definitely enjoying the tank much more than the lfs. It’s been opening its mouth more. Few hours in between. This am the tentacles are more visible. It’s almost light time so fingers crossed he opens.

I shouldn’t have took it. But better a fighting chance in mine than the other. His tanks are pretty pristine so I’m skeptical.

I'm don't think it's a duncan, they usually wouldn't have enlarged ends on their frills. I agree most likely a hammer or a frogspawn, but I am not super experienced with euphillia corals

It's a Euphyllia, looks like a hammer.

It's obviously bleached. Do not over illuminate and make sure nutrients are appropriate. Low nutrient systems may inhibit recovery.

I really can’t see it being a Duncan. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to look like let alone know if it’s bleached. My urchin cleaned it up a bit, but definitely sick with something. I’ll leave it for a few more days. It’s come out more and more, but since the urchin messed with him. I’m sure it will be back to square one… poor fella

The ridges look fairly irregular too. I feel like those half circles should be more consistent in shape and diameter? Mhm. Let’s say it is a hammer. Could it be infested or just sick?
