That seems like a very cautious approach to raising them.Am I the only one who quit taking my kids to the LFS after learning about palytoxin?

Especially chocolate donuts.......There are dangers to pretty much anything in life, you have to live life to the fullest without fear and enjoy it

I think you might be. I haven’t heard of anyone getting infected with it just by visiting the LFS. What worries you?Am I the only one who quit taking my kids to the LFS after learning about palytoxin?

I just added my first on Saturday. It was exactly what my tank was missing.Blown way out of proportion. Risk is essentially zero unless they are literally cooking palythoa in an oven, or cutting up playthoa grandis on a chopping board
Look at my mountain of them, one polyp is the size of a full plug of favia
I am not concerned at all and work barehand in my tank

The risk is not even close to the walk from the car to the front door of the LFS. The people who have gotten sick do dumb things like place their rock in an oven and cook it. literally.Am I the only one who quit taking my kids to the LFS after learning about palytoxin?
That colony in my pic…started out as 8 polyps mounted on flat 2x2 (maybe 3x3) tile. There is nothing under it to give this dome shape, the stalks are THAT long. probaby 5” stalksI just added my first on Saturday. It was exactly what my tank was missing.
I was surprised, mine brown with greenish ring. What surprised me was how it made the rest of the tank pop if you get what I mean. I found it to be one of my favorites pieces in the tank. That colony in my pic…started out as 8 polyps mounted on flat 2x2 (maybe 3x3) tile. Mine started off somewhat plain / dull but as they grew the green got More and more intense. And to make room for more polyps the existing ones kept getting taller. Understandable. My kids are both real young and after reading the horror stories about palytoxin I just sort of thought to myself why even bother exposing a 25lb child to palytoxin in a LFS. Its like do i really trust the 16 year old kid fragging grandis minutes before i walk into the store lol?
I don't even keep zoas or palys any longer in my tank TBH.
As a side note to ppl suggesting that I may be some type of helicopter parent, I'm really not Lol. The palytoxin rabbit hole just freaked me out a bit.
