Anyone keep carnivorous plants?

I absolutely love CP but our climate here is all wrong for them. Too hot outdoors with too wide of temp swings. And even too warm indoors for most the good nepenthes and sundews

Cool! Glad to see there are quite a few crossover hobbyists. Always felt that carnivorous plants were the 'corals' of the plant world. I make my living doing reef tanks for people so while it is my passion, nepenthes are my hobby. Hoping to one day own an edwardsiana and rajah. Harder to come by then a lot of the designer corals in our trade if anyone knows a thing or two about the difficulty of propagating rare non-hybrid nepenthes.

That sounds good! I'd also recommend a cape sundew. They do well at catching small flying insects.

Theyre not that small, though, and they don’t really fly that much. Heres a picture, i belive they are called boxelder beetles. They like crawling all over the place, in our office they end up all over the windows, and they also like crawling on my tank. Heres a picture.

Yep, boxelder bugs. We get those in the fall around here. They congregate in groups on the siding of my house and in the fallen leaves. Gotta keep the doors and windows closed or they get in the house.

I have 3 venus fly traps that have shot off numerous little babies over the past year. Since already culture flightless fruit flies for breeding bettas I just throw a handful in the bowl with them every once in a while.

That's funny! I thought the same thing when I got my first carnivorous plant. My parents always kept house plants. I felt I needed something cooler than what they kept, lol.

I suppose you're interested in terrestrials. I have kept aquatic carnivorous plants over the years. Bladderwort is an aquatic carnivorous plant. Very handy in clearing up your tank water from mobile microorganisms.
