Anyone stopped dosing daily bacteria??

This thread got too sad for me to visit too frequently...I mean look, just for example...this poster seems to be stating that the member he responded to was incorrect based on someone else who isnt even posting on the thread adding bacteria (unspecified bacteria) to their tank. Thats a tough argument...
I want to tell him that hes correct when he repeats that corals consume bacteria (which he almost certainly heard from someone else and thats why he belives it), however, a WHICH BACTERIA? Do they even add bacterioplankton to MB7 when they squirt kt in the bottle at the factory? Who knows? It could absolutely (and likely) be made up of bacteria which only live on surfaces. The guy here forgot the role carbon dosing plays (the extremely important role if the system works as believed).
I dont really discuss scientific based topics with people who use someone elses explanation for a phenomenon and incorrectly repeat it.

It just got too sad for me in this thread...

The only thing that's making this thread sad are your comments. Everyone else is simply stating their experience which was the purpose of the thread. Nobody has said bacteria driven systems 100^m% scientifically work to keep water clean, algae at bay and corals healthy. You can't dispute people's experiences and as @twrntyleagues correctly points out you assume you know more than other people which is a terrible assumption in any conversation.

You're entitled to your opinion and you may well be correct but rather than calling posts or threads sad I think it's better you keep those opinions to yourself.

I'm curious to see his tank in person when it's not camera ready.

I think what people like about his tank is his preperation and post processing for photos.

@Troylee I know that you guys are buddies and you defend his process. But a conversation rooted in reality might be in order.

If you say that his tank looks that pristine 24/7 365, then I'll bow out.

I’ve always been a firm believer that the most viewed and highest traffic build threads aren’t the “best” tanks out there. They are the threads where the OP can take the best pictures.

If you understand photography, have a decent camera, and can post edit properly…you can have a busy build thread

This is a good point! knowing how to use a camera and post editing will take a good looking subject and turn it in to a perfect subject. I can not do this...

To a sense yes that’s very true.. but that particular tank “Sunny’s” it isn’t some crazy macro shots or vibrant colors etc.. I’m sure he don’t even own the biggest hottest named corals he’s just about growing corals! And growing them fast to say the least. He’s got slimers, digis etc nothing super fancy plenty of tenuis in there but the growth rates are insane! That’s what fascinating about his thread and nothing else. Of course his tank is beautiful but it’s not over saturated one of kind corals like most people post with their blue thumbs.

Agree. Something he does works and works well. Is it husbandry? Is it " the bacteria driven system"? Is it he just has good luck? I think it has to do with the first two mostly seeing that he has replicated his success a few times. He posts a lot of videos or at least used to those are not easy to edit for color or to hide issues. A lot of the time videos look way more "off" in a bad way than what you are truly seeing in person.

It is not even clear that you want to see denitrifying bacteria in a reef tank. My Aquabiomic tests show zero denitrifying strains. In a mature system the corals would grab all the available ammonia and there would be little need for denitrifying strains.

Carbon dosing to super-charge bacterial growth as a food source for corals is a nice idea - but again, not sure which bacterial strains different corals prefer to consume. Probably different for each coral. And probably not denitrifying strains. More likely the carbon dosing creates bacteria that is not a desirable food source and simply gets skimmed out of the system. Which is still helpful of course.

Adding live sand or rubble from the ocean makes sense as a means to offset the drift towards less bacterial diversity that happens over time in a closed system. Corals need access to specific bacteria for their growth and well-being. Corals certainly consume some types of bacteria. Bacteria will be important for the well-being of your micro-fauna. But this likely involves dozens or hundreds of different strains.

Regularly adding the same couple of strains of bacteria (which I suspect have minimal to no value in a mature reef tank) seems pointless. Adding bacterial strains common in the ocean seems like a much better idea. I know that Aquabiomics recently started selling cultured rubble with an extremely broad bacterial spectrum representative of what exists naturally. That seems a better consumer investment from my point of view. Still a pitch to sell you bacteria - but a more convincing pitch.
