Anyone using Dr. Sochting's Oxydator

Hi Atoll. I have been an oxydator mini in a 20g long and running 5% H2O2. I'm still haven't seen much improvement on my glass. It still get cover with algae daily. Do you recommend increasing the %? Do you think the Mini is too small?

I'm have an IM 20 peninsula and the back chamber is very small. Not sure if any other model will fit back there.

The model D would be better for sure. However with regards to algae growing on the glass. This can take a while before it slows down. However, you could up the % of peroxide to 9% and even 12% just ensure you watch your animals when you do for signs of a negative reaction when/if you do. Increasing the number of catalysts has a similar affect to increasing the % of peroxide. If you use one catalyst in your mini adding another will double the peroxide being released so you will need to fill it more often of course.

My reef is of a similar size to yours gallonage wise. I have an Oxydator A running with 12% peroxide and 2 catalysts in the return pump section of my sump.

Thanks atoll! I'll try increasing the % and see if that helps. To be honest, if film algae on my glass is the only nuisance algae I got, I can live with that! :cool:

Oxydators are not considered a cure for nuisance algae however, they do help in its eradication and often help tip.the balance against it.

Peroxide at 12% wont destroy plastics.
An Oxydator A running 12% peroxide and 2 catalysts will last approximately a week.

As you know the effects are very similar to ozone. Now, it depends on a number of factors just like ozone. With a hazy water clarity some notice improvements within a few hours other it's a slower process depending on why or what is causing the haziness. You might need to put another catalyst in if you dont notice an improvement in water clarity within 24 hours. Neither ozone or peroxide will remove the likes of detritus but it will help nullify it to some extent by oxidation some of the compounds within.

3 days after installed Oxydator all diatoms (or dinos) disappeared from two powerheads (only places when I see it) It very clean now.

Result then. Some people think Oxydators are little more than snake oil. I have been telling people about them for around 30 years. Slowly but surely I am beginning to be proved right about the benefits they can bring esp to water quality.

Difficult to.put a time frame on how quickly an Oxydator will work. Some notice an improvement in hours some days. Are you using a skimmer?
