I am trying to decide.

Do I buy the new generation or save $100 and buy the classic?

For YOUR needs is what you get with the new one worth $100? Right now the form factor may be a little nicer, but its plastic as opposed to aluminum. The new energy bar has DC outputs, 1link ports, and power monitoring for each outlet.

They both support all existing stuff. Neptune said that in the future new stuff will support classic, if possible, and all announced stuff supports the classic.

The built in web interface is more like Fusion but I almost never use the built in interface.

It might matter more when they bring out the killer thing and it is only for the new, but I have no idea what it could be.

The new one is shiny and new.

I went with the new one for my new build. I like a few of the new features for my usage. Just waiting for it to get to the LFS so I can go get it.

There are some "teething" issues with the new Apex. While the Classic is a great piece of gear and I have no intention of replacing mine anytime soon, you are looking at deciding between the rock solid, proven piece of gear that is now a legacy piece that will slowly become obsolete vs. the new piece of gear that will be grown into and probably be "current" for 5-10 years. Unless you have a pretty solid need for the Apex today, I would wait a couple months and get the new Apex.

I'd go with the new one personally, the cost to add on a pm2, salinity probe, etc to get the same measurements/features out of the lab grade gold Classic vs the new means that you're really not saving anything if you'll use those features.

Don't know that I would buy a new one if I was in the market now. Just too new with issues right now and a least with Fusion some have trickled back to classic. Lots of available used classic systems right now for sale that would probably do you for some time to come until the new one has issues worked out. As with any new product like that you risk getting screwed if issues force a V2 revision of the product in the near future. Plus who knows Cerebra might actually pan out as a more worthwhile product or Ecotech etc. could release something that is more appealing. As far as a new classic the value is not there without much deeper discounts. Maybe if you could still find a new gold that would be worthwhile.

The apex gold is available as well.

Then Apex Gold is not still sold, however the Apex Lab grade system is still available and then just add a PM2 plus a Conductivity probe. Now you will have an APEX Gold system ;)

Missing the lab grade ORP probe. Besides the added up cost will not be very smart move
