I posted a bit ago about having a problem with an Apex PH probe, turns out it was just me being stupid and not knowing that there was a cap on the probe. I have now removed the cap, bought new calibration solution, and re calibrated. My readings are still a bit strange ( 7.63 ), but when I cross check with the solutions, they are bang on. I also used the probe in a cup with a sample of tank water to make sure stray voltage was not a factor, the probe actually read a bit lower, but not a significant amount.
My only other way of testing PH is an api master test kit, which is well known to be innacurate. This test kit shows 8.0.
I have also got my water tested at the lfs ( they are using api aquaspin ) and they also gave me 8.0, though this was two months ago with a different salt, so I don't know if this is even a relevant data point.
I will be doing a water change with fritz blue box today, so I will see if that raises the PH, and if so, by what amount.
What do you guys think? I am inclined to trust the Apex ph probe, simply because the cross checking was so accurate, but at the same time I dont know how any of my corals or other animals are surviving.
