Aiptasia can survive in very harsh conditions. Some claim that they survive drying out, I don't have experience with that though. IME, dipping doesn't do anything to aiptasia. It's best to inspect your new frags. I was doing some mrs. wages pickling lime (kalkwasser) mixed with RO, and injecting them with 30 gauge needless from walgreens. It worked sometimes, most required multiple squirting. I've switched to AiptasiaX, this seems to work lot better. I've heard of some people smothering them with putty also. You can also get peppermint shrimps or cobberband butterflies. These however are hit and miss.
Aiptasia reproduce is a variety of ways. Since they are nems, they walk around. When they walk they scrape their foot along the surface, leaving little pieces. These grow into new aiptasia. When under stress (being injected with kalk, something eating them, environmental changes) they release gametes(sp), each of these anchor and grow into new aiptasia. Aiptasia can also release from the rock and be free floating, this is useful because you can scoop them out easily
