Have two 5g buckets and tried my first attempt in mixing the salt . The first bucket I used the included cups ( the cup that has 5 liters mark and 10 liter mark ) so I added two full cups so 20 liters in the 5g rodi . Salinity was 1.029 . So the second bucket I did two full cups again but a little less like under the line . Which the Salinity came out to 1.028 so I added more rodi to bring it down to 1.027 . I googled how many liters in 5 gallons and it said 18.9 liters so does anyone got a idea how much salt/ cups I need to mix in a 5g bucket to get a salinity of 1.025 . I think next time ima add one cup and the second slowly and lil by lil. Ima guess it's one full cup and 3/4 cup . Wish aquaforest made a better measuring cup . Any help is appreciated

Weighing salt is far more accurate and reliable. Scoops and cups aren’t accurate measurements

Are you sure each bucket had 5 gallons of water? You have to fill it all the way up to get 5 gallons. It leaves no room to mix or carry without spilling

whatever you google they are all rough guides for you. The most accurate way stop short of your final yield and keep testing and adding more salt until you get the desired salinity. Say its 1 cup per 10L and you need 100L, add 9 cups first and slowly keep adding and testing constantly until you get to 1.025. The more you mix and understand how many cups it takes for the same amount of water the easier it gets.

Do you really need to measure salt? Just add it until the salinity is where you want it.
Just wanted to see if there

That makes sense. I'm using tropic marin hydrometer.

Typically it’s 1/2 cup per gallon. Whenever I make 30g to WC with, I add 13 cups and then let it stir clean, then add another cup at a time. It’s typically 15 cups but it’s always easier to add salt than to dilute the water.

The way I mix it is fill HD bucket with rodi 3 rim top to bottom is 5 gallons and fill the AF cup 2 times to the second line up and I get 1.025 to 1.026 almost everytime, but I still make sure checking it with refractometer

I just add salt and test the salinity until I get it right. No matter how you do it, after a few times you'll be able to eyeball it pretty accurately.

Hello @mandime10c

You can check out our recommended salt amounts here:
https://aquaforest.eu/en/products/seawater/marine-salts/reef-salt-plus/

If you're aiming for a salinity of 1.025, you'll need to use 390g per 10 liters (or 13.75 oz per 2.7 US gallons). Let us know if you need help with anything else!
