Hi All,

Trying to get my wave maker positioned correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions on placement? This is a 40 AIO tank

What type of wavemaker do you have there and can you change/simulate different wave patterns via the app?

I’m seeing mostly soft corals, so would think something that makes them sway softly would be best.

Where you place it will just need to be experimented with. Maybe start in a corner so that the flow reaches the other side and then circles around or you could start in the middle and see how things react.

As long as you are seeing gentle movement from all of your corals, you should be good.

Thank you, I am using a Dula great white. I moved it around a few times, trying to get it where not all of the sand is blowing and all the corals are happy

If the sand is getting blown around, it’s either too low or on the short side (usually back to front), or turned up too high.

I’d start about 1/2 way between the waterline and middle of your glass.

I tried to have my wavemaker son the back side blowing towards the front glass and had to move them because it kept pushing the sand around. My back to front is 24” and im running mp40’s.

I ended up buying a back of coarser sand to sit on the front edge and that helped too, but over time it all gets mixed in with the finer stuff and blows around more than I’d like. I just rake it out as part of my weekly/biweekly maintenance.

I'd move it up higher in the tank. Upper 1/3 area. Helps provide more flow up top to agitate the water surface for more oxygenation and also provides stronger flow up top where usually higher light corals are place that like a lot of flow.

There's no one perfect spot. Move it around as you're doing and see how your corals respond. If you pick up a second pump, you can really start getting creative with much more random flow.
