Guys, I am so torn. Part of me really wants a puffer in my 125 reef tank but part of me also loves my clean up crew. In your opinion which one is more fun to watch? Is the puffer worth it? They are just so darn cute.

I had a Valentini puffer that was so cool but it’s teeth got too big and it ended up unable to eat. I had 80kg of LR for it to chew on but it just went for pellets. That was a loooong time ago and I haven’t researched their care since.

They are a lot of fun, probably more personality than any other fish. They will destroy any CUC you have, and are very messy eaters.

I loved my porcupine puffer, never one issue

always came to the front of the tank like a little puppy begging for food

if you get them small, you'll enjoy your CUC more but soon as they get bigger its time to move on
i just kept mine fat as possible and never attacked anything

Puffers are worth it in the right tank. I have a porcupine and dog face puffer in my 720gallon tank. I do have a couple of cleaner shrimp in my tank with the puffers triggers and wrasses. The cleaner shrimp are always under a rock but they do operate a cleaning station and even service the puffers from time to time. There are one or two snails and a few hermits in the tank they leave alone. While they ate the long spine urchins, pincushion urchins, and rock boring urchins the Halloween urchin has been left untouched.

They're absolutely worth it! They are unlike any other fish, so much personality! As far as cuc I had a couple of turbo snails and a fighting conch that my porcupine never touched (but he demolished the rest of my cuc). The conch never moved when he was around and the turbos may have just got lucky since they were so big.
