As opposed to "reef" plumbers. :-)

I am taking out the fixtures in a downstairs bathroom so I can use it as a sump room for the reef that will be upstairs on the main floor (its sort of a raised ranch). I removed the toilet, and would like to replace it with a floor drain. The line is cast iron and just runs straight down into the slab where it joins other drain lines. Is there some kind of "internal trap" I can place in the line under a drain grate? Don't want the stank in my pad.

I've looked online but I must not be using the right search terms...

I'm a plumber. You can install a floor sink in its place. You'll need to take up some of the concrete to install it, and it would be better if a plumber did it for you. You could also have a sealed sump pump container that sits on the floor, and pumps the waste water up and into one of your existing drain stacks.

Im also a plumber. Your going to need to break up concrete and add a trap. Floor sink or floor drain still need a trap.

Thanks guys! Hmmm... I thought some clever person would have concocted an "in-line" one. The drain would be nice, but I also was interested in the waste line as a place to discharge a gravity-feed water change system. I guess I can just open the cap, water change, and then close the cap.

There is a company called Sure Seal. Check out their product sure seal plus. It may work for you. However me being a Plumber its not the right way to do it lol;)

You can get spring loaded one-way waste valves that open with the weight of the water and spring shut to stop the stink

ARE YOU READY TO CONFESS TO CRAZIEST, DUMBEST, FUNNIEST THING YOU’VE EVER DONE IN REEFING?
