Are these tiles safe to use?

I like them because I can snap different sized pieces off easily with a hammer. Might not be straight but it works and is quick with no mess.

Do these come out cheaper than the frag plugs? Also can anyone point me to where I can get the smaller versions of these, or do you guys just break them up yourself?
Home Depot has them in a lot of different sizes and they are a lot cheaper than plugs or similar products from the industry. I'm sure you could also find them anywhere that sells tile. I use the 4" x 4" for mother colonies, but I'm sure if you got the 1" x 1" they would work as well. Link below.

They’re $10 a square foot I think at Home Depot and come in a variety size pack. Then I cut them with a grinder. Probably not that much cheaper than frag plugs from eBay. I just got 100 2” frag disc’s for $25 shipped on eBay. Easier and cheaper lol
Edit ; i guess they’re more like $3 a square. Lol :)

When I bought them last, they were $3.97 per square foot so the 4" x 4" tiles were 44 cents each. I haven;t found 4x4 frag tiles in the industry, but the only frag tiles that are 4x4 I have found are 93 cents plus 43 cents each shipping for a total price of $1.36 each on Amazon. The frag tiles on Amazon are made for this use so if you're a purist, they are way less likely to introduce unknown elements to your water. That's the trade off.

I haven't noticed an issue so far since adding 32 of these. I bought two 8 packs and cut each tile in half with a grinder and tile blade. I rinsed them very well and scrubbed them with a toothbrush. soaked them in a bucket of tank water and added bacteria to the bucket. Let them soak for a week. All ok so far.

$3.89 a pack of 8 is pretty cheap. That’s what they are, not on sale at Menards. If you want to cut them in half and make 2 squares you could. So you could have 16 3x3 squares. I bought some ocean wonders xxl 3x3 squares for $19.99 and the pack contains 10.

You can get these for about 11.00 a Sq. Ft. Each individual piece is 1"X2". You can just peel each piece away from the mesh backing.
