Are We Oddballs Too!

My wife and I just so happened to be in San Diego (a couple years ago) when Comicon was going on. We didn't realize this until we got there and couldn't get into a restaurant for dinner without standing in a long line with a bunch of odd looking folks. The deal was if we were willing to be seated with a "single" person, we could be seated earlier. We decided to take them up on the offer and sat with a young woman from the State of Washington....a little odd, and certainly could see why she was single. She proceeded to fill us in on the Comicon experience......a bunch of oddballs in my mind.

Anyway, it got me thinking......are we too seen as a bunch of oddballs when we attend MACNA or Reef-A-Palooza? What do you think?

I meant us reef/fish keepers were normal looking. Well for the most part anyway.

I would say not much different then those that go to Home and Garden shows. Our LFS even sets up a booth at those.

Most certainly. When I went to Reefapalooza Orlando 2 years ago and came home with corals my inlaws were there. When I told them I was at Reefapalooza and went on to explain what that was and what goes on there, they looked at me like I had 2 heads. The first thing out of there mouths was, "they do that"?

Everyone that sees my tank thats not in the hobby thinks its amazing so i think we are not considered odd by the general population. Im probably considered odd for a number of other reasons however....

Whenever I attend a local club meeting, expo or the LiveAquaria Open House Tours, my "family and friends" always refer to them as a "fish thing" with a verbal eye roll. That's why they don't get cookies!

And where else can you speak for hours using latin binomial nomenclature and not seem like a nerd?
