I’m an introvert. I like people and social interactions. But they drain me. After a long day of work I want individual time. I have nothing against being social, but it tires me. It’s not something I look to as a means of recharging if that makes sense.
Same here lol , I’m social but being alone gives me energy, being around people exhausts me

HARDCORE Introvert. I never have time to make solid friendships anyway, because my dads job forces us to move every 2-4 years.

Also big groups make me uncomfortable, especially when everyone is focused on me.

I’m mostly extroverted but I have some qualities of an introvert. No one person can fill in all of the blanks of either introverted nor extroverted but I find I fill in more blanks on the extroverted side of things more than anything.

In my teens and 20s I was a extrovert. And then when I turned 30 I kind of became an introvert. It wasn’t an overnight thing, but things definitely changed. I’m 40 now, and I don’t know how I had the energy to do everything I packed into my late teens and 20s. Although, I think most people are in between, these sort of classifications (same thing with personality types) are largely nonsense. Even though I say I’m now an introvert, according to the attributes of each listed above, I’d be pretty much right in the middle.

Introvert. I can be very social, most assume I'm an extrovert, but desperately need time alone and prefer to do my own thing.People exhaust me and I am blissfully content not interacting with people for long periods of time.

Introvert but I have many close friends, some from grammar school and part of a large crowd.

I am an inventor, speaker and artist and those things need to be done alone.

Even when I was In Viet Nam I would go off by myself in the jungle, not very far (not a great decision at that time) and get crashed helocopter parts, bamboo, pieces of exploded mines and just study them to see what I could build out of them if I were in a civilized place with tools, no enemies and a roof.

I built this nice "blast wall" by harvesting bamboo by myself in the jungle with a machete. This was in a clearing on the Cambodian border in 1970

I even got an award that read "Creativity in a combat environment" which I think my Captain (who I am still friends with) made up

I still love to plod around in a tide pool by myself looking for anything interesting then it keeps me up all night thinking of what I could build out of it.

It is interesting that according to the vote result that most of us are introvert

Um dosnt make sense to me...

Growing up my dad always said- I'm not who I think I am I'm not who you think I am however I am who I think you think I am...

Again introvert or extrovert makes no sense

I’m gonna guess there’s a pretty good reason why a lot of us picked a hobby that demands we spend a lot of time in our own living rooms.
And for the extroverts who do have fish tanks: they are probably going to real life fish clubs instead of having out on the reef lounge. Haha.

definitely an introvert ... gimme animal planet or youtube and my comfy blanket and i’ll be happy all saturday afternoon on the couch.

When you think it'd be nice to visit the only good saltwater aquarium shop which is 30 miles from home, but then you remember the internet also has corals shipped to your door so you stay home, you might be an introvert.

Generally, I'm introverted though there are a handful of topics that can really get me exuberant (fish, photography, travel, etc).

I’m definitely introverted, but I also like a bit of a balance of extroverted type things. For example, I need alone time to recharge and relax, but I also like being with friends/at gatherings every once in awhile. I don’t necessarily dislike social events, but I am totally drained afterward, even if I didn’t “do” much of anything, if that makes sense.

Okay. From the responses so far, I think that we can surmise that reefers in general tend to be introverts.

I have a proposal. A support group! What if we all get together (regionally of course) and make a point to go out, get drunk and get loud? We could go out in public and socialize with anybody and everybody. We could go to bars, or discos, or trendy art galleries and just introduce ourselves. Meet new people and expand our social horizons!

Or not. On second thought, I'm kinda diggin my introverted lifestyle. Very few social obligations that I would rather not attend, but would feel guilty if I didn't. I kinda like my time with the wife, tanks and dogs. My phone isn't constantly freaking out with faceplant friends or yourtube messages. I can spend what little free time I have the way I want to without worrying about anybody else. I think I'll just keep on keepin on the way I am for now.

Just disregard the whole support group thing.

There are a couple relatives of ours who are the outgoing social types, we always get invited to their get togethers which are fun but....they invited us out to wine tasting a couple summers ago, met them late afternoon. They were vacationing at a lovely campground down the road. They had already kayaked in the morning and biked to the winery. We spent maybe an hour or so at the winery, then we went to a local distillery for another hour or so, then went back to the campground for a quick dinner, then we HAD to drive 20 minutes to a state park for the sunset. We were back at their campground by 9pm and we left. We were drained.

We were expecting wine tasting and relaxing at their campground eating dinner and socializing around a fire.

Well, that sounds like it would have been a nice time! But oh man the unexpected add-ons to plans gets me too sometimes. “I didn’t reserve enough social energy for this!”

Introvert. I think reefing as a hobby appeals more to the introvert than the extrovert. Small sample size, but poll is 9:1. Relatively easy for an introvert to learn to appear/masquerade as an extravert; much harder the other way around.
