Asterina star solution

I have not heard of a harlequin not eating stars of any sort other than brittles. Your shrimp was eating something to survive, do you have other stars in the tank? If not he was eating the astrenias or he would have died of starvation.

After months of observing this particular harlequin, I can honestly say that he has never shown any interest in asterinas. Couple that with a severe asterina population explosion and I conclude that he isnt touching them. Maybe I got the 1 harlequin out of 1000 that eats pods and detritus.
 
I have a blue linckia starfish and they actually eat the asterina stars. Its not a fast solution but they certainly keep the population under control. Not many people are aware that they eat asterina's but I have witnessed it first hand when the linckia was on my glass...
