ATI Straton Pro G2 153 vs. ATI Straton X

I am currently running four of the original ATI Stratons over my 210-gallon predominantly SPS mixed reef aquarium (82.7" x 26.8" x 25.6"), arranged in a single row, side by side. I also have a spare unit on hand.

After seeing the new ATI Straton Pro G2 in person at Reefapalooza Orlando 2025, I was very impressed. Since then, I have also seen several videos and discussions about the Straton X. I understand that the Straton X is not currently available in the U.S., and I am not in a rush to replace my existing lights, but I am an equipment junkie and love to hear about progress.

With that in mind, what is the intended use case for each of the current Straton models (Straton Pro G2, and Straton X)? Specifically, I am interested in:

• The key differences in spectrum, output, and coverage between the models
• Which model would be recommended for a predominantly SPS mixed reef of my dimensions

ATI also has the Straton Flex line which was released a few months ago.

I am also waiting for more information to come out for the Straton X—specifically how it compares to the Straton Pro G2. It looks like the Straton X can be mounted more aesthetically if you prefer on-tank rather than a hanging mount. I hope details on the Straton X comes out soon. The spread and par output look impressive from the videos. I assume the earliest they will be available in the US is Spring 2026 but there is a chance we’ll have to wait even longer . . .

The straton x looks amazing. I get my 170 gallon IM friday. I'm purchasing a house so I'm delaying setting up my tank until spring when I move. I'm definitely waiting for the straton x.

If you have time before the tank gets setup you can purchase rock for the aquascape in the interim and let it cool for the next 3-6 months in a tub or bin.

If you take a look at the videos it looks like the X will have the most advanced reef lighting tech ATI has ever released.

Interesting. It says 34 x 24 coverage at 150 watts maximum. Difficult decision as i think i will need 2 of them for my 72".

I have a 58” and not even sure two covers that. It technically should but never know until people get their hands on the unit and test it out. For 72” two might be enough if you have mostly softies but unclear if you have SPS dominant. For the second gen Stratons the real world coverage seems to be less than what was in the product tech description.

Thanks Buddy. You a re right. Real world tells more. Yep, i used to have the tank SPS dominant but a leakage ruined it out and almost lost everything so for sure i am going the same route. Maybe that's why i still love my T5. Don't want to stay there due to the Bulb issues and from 6 80 watt bulbs i am working with 4 only as a ballast went out and have been waiting 2 months for them to be in stock.

For sure, if i need more than 2 X my only option then will be the Flex.

yesterday I finally received my order from ATI – the new Straton X. I’m located in Germany and ordered it during ATI’s Black Friday sale. As far as I know, you currently can’t order it anymore. It was only available in a limited quantity, so it will probably take a while until it’s regularly available again. I waited about a month for delivery.

Before that, my setup was 2x AI Hydra 32 HD plus a Blade Glow. To be honest, I wasn’t really happy with the Hydras. The lenses started to melt, the fans were quite loud, and I never really liked the overall look of the blue light. Because of that, I decided to give the new Straton X a try.

First impressions: really impressive.

Great light spread, completely fanless, solid build quality, and the new app is definitely a big improvement compared to the old one.

That said, you can clearly tell that the app is still very new and not fully mature yet. There aren’t many templates available, and the customization options are somewhat limited. For example, there are no quick shortcuts like in Mobius to easily set up a dedicated blue phase. The light curves are very daylight-heavy, which is actually nice. However, I feel like some of my corals have lost a bit of color. My Euphyllias look slightly paler, while my Acros actually gained a bit of color.

The light coverage is awesome. On my Red Sea Reefer G2 200, almost the entire tank is evenly lit, even areas next to the overflow get plenty of light. I’ll post more detailed PAR numbers later today once I measure them. The app already gives you a good estimate of PAR values depending on mounting height, which is pretty cool.

Regarding build quality and materials: ATI advertises this as a premium product, and I’d say that’s only partly true. Some threads weren’t countersunk properly, a few parts are clearly 3D-printed, and some metal parts aren’t perfectly aligned. For example, the mounting arm itself is aluminum, but the clamp is 3D-printed. That doesn’t feel super confidence-inspiring when it’s the part holding the entire weight of the fixture.

These are definitely valid points of criticism, but overall I really like the light a lot. I’ll finish dialing it in today, and once everything is set up properly, I’ll give you another update.

Thank you for the detailed review! I hope the X becomes widely available in the EU soon since that likely increases the cha.minces of it releasing in the US. Would love to see how the light and spectrum looks over your tank. What do you believe the max coverage area is for a mixed reef system as well as a SPS dominant system?

Based on when you say it is perfectly covered on your tank seems that the coverage that ATI was saying for SPS of 38 x 24 is over estimated.
