Got a 36" 6 bulber that I need to hang off my knotty pine wall (easy to drill holes). The run will be about 2 feet out. Cant go from ceiling as there is an air duct right above tank. My thought is to home depot to get a metal shelf mount or the like and get a 4 foot by 6 inch piece of plywood, stain it to match wood, and mount it to the shelves. Then, hang the sunpower off that.

I am also thinking of adding a 36" quanta bar meso blue OR take one of my A360's and set it to the side since its a 3 foot fixture going over a 4 foot tank. Can set the 360 to super blue for extra color pop and angle it a little sideways so it also hits middle of tank. Thinking 4 Blue plus bulbs, 1 coral plus, and one actinic.

What do you think? Do you love it?

I think the theory is good but ultimately I would want to rely upon a solid connection that passes building codes. I am not sure how to achieve your goal without having a solid anchoring point (with a secure stud or anchoring point that can support a lot of weight hanging over your tank)

A picture might improve discussion! This can be done, but I'm not sure how to get it done rightly? :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

right but if the anchoring point on the wall has multiple attachment points vertically, it would carry the load I think. That wood is also close to an inch thick.

Another thought is that i can get some conduit and run it up the back of the stand and bend it over the tank. I did this years ago and it easily worked. Might be a little ugly.

AFAICT all depends on how well the pine is attached to the wall..
Or if its primary or secondary sheathing i.e. attached to studs or like plaster/furring or attached to studs over plaster/drywall

Can be a ft thick but like glued in 2 spots to the wall and down it goes.

Generally the pine is attached just fine but no guarantee unless you get your shelf brackets into the wall studs.

Point is really not enough info.. As to my "preference" find the wall studs, attach there.

good point. There are many many screw holes that I can measure to see if they are in fact 16" on center and use that as my guide. Based on the fact that there are abundant amount of filled screw holes, im thinking that it is pretty secure.

Besides the wood wall, I am in the same boat with my 8 bulb Sunpower I just got. I am debating on building a shelf above the tank and then hanging from that as needed.

Or some type of mount that attaches to my stand. I kind of like the stand idea personally. No holes in the wall to fix later

I used metal conduit from home depot and just arced it 2 feet above the tank. Still trying to figure out if I want to run an A360 next to the sunpower and blast it 99% blue. Blue plus still appears pretty white to my eyes.

I have done bent conduit many times over the years. I kind of want a more finished/polished look this time so I may spring for the Kessil stand mounts

Thats an interesting thing... do you mean the mounts that attach the A360's? I was thinking about extending conduit from them down the back and having the main weight load be drilled into the back of the stand instead of the glass bearing the load. Not sure if that is what you meant.

Agree- conduit isnt nice to look at.

Kessil named them horribly. They’re called extension mounts. Not to be confused with their extension slides 🤦‍♂️

You have to buy 2 A series arms and the mounts. Not cheap but very well done IMO and way better looking than conduit

I love this idea. 2 would carry the weight load of that fixture?

I believe so. I have one A series arm on hand and it is thick material. My Sunpower is torn apart at the moment getting ready for powder coating. I will pull the arm out when I get a chance and try hanging 20 pounds on it somehow. I would like to see the extension mounts before confimring as well

so here is my setup. I’m thinking now raise (obviously) the arms up high and strap them to the wall back there for extra support to hold the sunpower

Too bad Geisemann doesn't make those amazing brackets any longer.

Which brackets?

These or did they make others as well?
