ATO idea - I travel often

I have a roughly 275 gallon system, 210 DT and a 65g sump (probably closer to 250 honestly, neither is filled to top)

I travel fairly often and am the main person that cares for the tank.

my evap during cooler months has been 1-2 gallons a day, I can only imagine the summer months spiking to 2-4g…

would hooking up an ato to a 20g brute be plausible? Do I need to look for a certain type of ato to achieve this?

Where is your sump in relation to the tank?

A few things to think about.

1. Is brute going to be taller than the sump? If so, you will need to rig it up so a siphon does not form, as the brute is taller than the ATO output.

2. Do you have room under the stand for a 20 high tank or a large tote? If so, you could go this route.

3. Is sump in basement? If so, you can choose from a number of containers, but would need to think about item 1 above, as well.

I hook mine up to a 44 gallon brute. I also highly recommended your ato on a timer so that it has double redundancy to not stick on , have the timer turn it on twice a day for 5 mins or so

Sump is directly below the tank, the brute would definitely be taller than the sump, didn’t think about a siphon being created, good point.

timer is also a great idea to avoid flooding lol

You will lose less water in the summer months due to higher humidity. During winter months, with heat warming the house, evaporation will be greater.

I have a 40 gallon brute which I use for RODI storage. It sits adjacent to the tank and is plumbed to the float valve in my sump. And there you have it... a 40 gallon ATO. It's gravity fed, so, there isn't much that can fail. :)

Ignore the kalk reactor which I sold about 15 years ago. :) This is how I have my ATO setup with electric solenoids. The tube feeding the sump is only half way submerged so if the solenoid did fail open, it would not completely empty into my system.

I connect 5gal buckets to cover up to 10days of ATO. Buckets are linked with airline tubing and have weights to keep them at the bottom of each bucket. My APEX runs ATO as normal just with additional capacity.

You want one with a peristaltic pump I use avast hooked up to 44 gallon brute on my 210. Lasts 2 weeks in winter and 3 spring summer fall
