I was splitting my rock up into smaller pieces and noticed what looked like a closed up zoa head. It started moving so I worked on splitting around it. I found the other end and pulled this out. Not sure what it was but a worm of some type.

Peanut worm. Had at least one in the past and they're really cool. I would have left it. :disappointed-face:

So my 4lbs just arrived. Very well packed. Did not smell to bad.
I put it in my 30g remote fuge thats attatched to my 80g.
Nice shape for 1 piece.
Has what appears to be orange coralline
All in all not bad.

Orange coralline algae? That would be very interesting! Can you confirm that it is not actually encrusting sponge?

Got my shipment of 15 pounds in today, which will be added to my 25 pounds of Aussie rock that I have already had curing in a 60 gallon for the last 10 days.

Wow, that is nice rock! Do you know what that large mint green colony is on the bottom of the rock toward the top left of the second picture?

The sweet smell of ocean fresh rock! I love those pieces, especially with the halimeda. Super nice!

I have no idea, I’d be curious to know myself. I noticed you asked the other guy about orange coraline, I can confirm I had what appeared to be an orange colored coraline on my first shipment I got 10 days ago from a different supplier. Although that supplier recommended keeping lights off for curing for the first few weeks which I noticed caused that first shipment of Aussie rock to start losing its coloring. So I have since turned lights on and will be leaving them on for 9 hours a day to try to keep its unique coloring on this shipment and what is still left on the original shipment.

Its not sponge. I have some orange in another system and it looks similar but its a slow grower.

I'm wondering if it is a colonial/encrusting bryozoan? It's very interesting, like many things on nice live rock!
I'm also intrigued by orange coralline algae! I got some live rock from Gulf Live Rock a month ago and have only seen maroon/red/purple/lavender/pink coralline algae. All of the orange color seems to be sponge. Hopefully the sponges are mostly harmless and somewhat hardy, since I would like to keep some orange coloration mixed in.
Orange coralline seems like a hardier, better way to get orange than sponges.

Very interesting! I'd love to have some orange coralline algae to mix with the other colors. I did not know this even existed.

Yes their are all colors actually you just dont see them. I have seen blue and black and have the standard green version now.
Its just that purple pink are faster growers and tend to take over.

6 years ago live rock was still common and looked way better than this stuff imo. I just got it for bio diversity and not the look.
I buy any old real live rock, now dead when I can find it, and put it in my sumps fuge and tun it back into colored live rock. It is vastly different than the solid rock sold today.
I have about 30lbs that is close to going into my sump sitting in a bucket after cleaning. 6 months and it will be purple and pink and I can start another nano with it, lol.

Please keep us updated on how that orange Coralline algae does. It would be awesome to see it grow out. Be sure to share any other exciting developments as well.

The guy I bought my first batch of 25 pounds of Australian live rock from a couple weeks ago was a bit more expensive but his pieces were incredible gorgeous display type pieces. I found this batch of 15 pounds I bought from Unique to be really nice, but nothing really like a wow factor like I feel I got from pristine marine aquariums (Jason) . My only regret was leaving lights off on my tank last couple weeks while curing it and it lost some of its color from that I think.

Here is mine, I bought from 2 different sources, the first source being Pristine Marine Aquariums, I have had 25lbs of that now for about 5 weeks and the second batch I got from Unique Corals about 3-4 weeks ago which was 15lbs from them for a total of 40lbs of Aussie rock. I’ve had them curing in my 60 gallon breeder with ocean direct live sand in it the entire time. Haven’t seen a single pest or bad hitchhikers at all on any of the rock. I’ll be transferring this rock along with all the dry rock I have to my 310 gallon planet aquarium build once I begin filling it with water over 4th of July weekend.

First couple images are the most recent pics from the last few days, the others are from when I first got them. Pristine Marine Aquarium I felt sent much more quality unique pieces compared to Unique corals which I felt weren’t quite as unique show type pieces of rock, but still amazing live rock regardless and very happy with both purchases
