Is there a formula to figure out how much salt water needs to be auto changed per day to keep up with alk demand if my 24 gallon tank is using approximately 1dkh / day of alk

If that’s unreasonable to keep up with the demand can you calculate how much kalk or soda ash etc to add to the awc vat to reduce needed Doser pumps

It’s doable but would get expensive real quick! It’s best to dose it and cheapest… plenty of calculators out there if you wanna play.

It’s not to save money per say just that it’s a small tank and I’m gone for weeks at a time so it’s just easier for me to mix say 30 gallons if 1/gal day will keep up

It would depend on the alk of the new water and what your target alk is.

I get it but at some point it’s not feasible.. better to set up a doser with all for reef if that’s the case.
Yes but what point is not feasible and trying to move away from afr

if it's always 8 what's the concern?

You need to monitor the daily alk drop that occurs with no intervention (test at the same time of day each time) over a week or 2 to get the required dosing, if any, and use a calculator to go from there.

Then it is impossible (except 100% daily).

If alk demand is 1 dKH per day, you need to change 50% daily with water that is 2 dKH higher than the tank.

I am no mathematician but 1dkh use on a replenishment of 8dkh water would require quite a large water change to replenish the 1dkh.
