I've had this red torch for a while, and I've really put it through the ringer, killing several heads over the years. Things have been pretty stable for a while, though.

Today I saw what looks to be a mini-version of this torch on the opposite side of my 20g cube. Could this possibly be a new torch? I don't see any skeleton, just the tentacles in the photo below. Sorry for the bad photo - its at a rough spot.

Could be. It looks like on your mother colony that one of the polyps (heads) bailed out and maybe that is the missing head. It could also be a majano anemone.

Thanks. If it is polyps from the mother, is it viable? Can it start to construct its own skeleton?

Did your torch end up surviving?
It did! It attached itself to the rock and is doing just fine. I'm glad, cause it's the only thing I have left from that coral.

I have a toxic hammer that did the same, even though the hammer is thriving - it must have 20 heads by now. This is a rockless frag tank, so the baby ends up at a dead spot in the flow. I haven't decided how I want to deal with it. Looking at a previous reply, it looks like I should glue it to a plug.

Here are mama and baby:
