That would be neat to see! They physical instant reaction of h2o2 may be a fast or slow process under the scope. I tried to do this but was unsuccessful as the slide started to dry before results could be captured.

If it's not to quick I'll have to try and see if sealing the cover slip affords it the time.

Day 2 of the cyanobacteria culture. No air no topoff water.
You can get an idea of how fast this can grow, you can see it starting to grow on the surface of the water.

Here are a couple pics of the growth 1st one on the overflow 2nd on rock but can't get a good pic of it as the tank bows and throws off the focus. Did my best but still really can't see it well.

@Fudsey are the mats coming and going or consistantly growing. also if it is cyano it looks fairly young in its development and H2O2 should knock it out pretty quick. Looking at the mat structure though im kinda leaning towards spirulina.

@cowboy Mostly they are consistantly growing, but I haven't really watched them yet. I thoroughly cleaned the tank a month ago with a 50% water change and vacuumed the sand bed/mats and cleaned my old rock of any signs of it. This just started coming back about a week ago. Before the cleaning they were red and green mats almost looked like they float a little above the rock. but on the overflow, they always seem attached better.

I have a new bottle of H2O2 and was going to start treatment tonight. I also have Chemiclean but was not ready to use it. I can't find my air pump and stones.... lol... I want to find them or get new ones before I even attempt Chmiclean after reading more about it.

Fortunately with H2O2 you should not need the additional air. The floating mats are consistent with cyano most of your spirulina will be attached very well and show a dense mat. I personally do not like to use chemiclean as it has more risk versus rewards, I have seen less stress in my livestock and coral using H2O2 with much higher rewards.

OK I started the 1ml per 10gal so around 8 ml in my 72bow w/sump. Small w/d sump(that I hate) but supposedly rated for 150gal tank so....? I'll try and watch the mats and see if they do anything when lights are off. Just turned my white lights to 5 hrs and blue for 4 in am and 4 in pm. I will be dosing either in blue light(PM) or darkness(AM). I am also sending @twilliard a sample of both patches beginning of next week to see exactly what I have in there. I also turned off the Sulfur Denitrator for the duration of the dosing.

Long day at the office but here's an update. Day 2 of dosing all looks about the same.

I'm starting to think what I have is Dinoflagellates. I'll keep dosing peroxide this coming week. If there are no results by the end of the week I think I'm going to go lights out for a few days.

Keeping up but are you sending me a sample?
It does not look like dinoflagellates
Keep dosing h2o2 up till day 7.
If you do not see change at day 7 it is possible to be spirulina
Dinoflagellates are a off brown color, O2 bubbles and stringy

Sample was mailed out yesterday it should be to you Monday. There has been some stringy stuff with bubbles in it. It also seems to get a little worse after water change and it does go away a little bit at night.

Have some concave slides coming and looking forward to see the reaction as i drop in some H2O2.

But for now I couldn't wait and have been looking at this sample tonight

And got side tracked in all the stuff in there but just dropped on it some H2O2 and the reaction was superb. Most definitely effective.

Will post all pictures and vids in that our tanks biology up close thread and link to it here once its all uoloaded. . .I'm still exploring.

This is what happens when you give a man a scope, always gets side tracked can never focus on one strain. Looking forward to the vids man would love to see the true reaction with introduction of H2O2.

Day 1 No change to appearance of mats although I could smell my sump and tank a bit. Cleaned collection cup of skimmer and it reeked, might have been that...

Water parameters Red Sea test kit:
pH 8.2
Ammonia 0.0 or undetected
Nitrites 0.0 or undetected
Nitrates off the scale (over 50, test maximum)
dKH 12

I don't test for others as this is a FOWLR tank and all I have is a RedSea marine care test kit.

Day 3 first off pistol shrimp went on a rampage today so the sand is all stirred up. Now I'm starting to lean toward Diatoms. Haven't seen these since I cycled my tank two years ago.
