Second the idea.

@bakbay I figure you have central A/C, maybe it can help keep up with the temps and run the chiller as a backup, during the high temp hours of the day. Downside of the mini split, those holes you are drilling + the mounting and the condensate issues stop of it all, you tend to not go back from, that, lol. Holes for the chiller, I'm figuring 2x 1" or 1.5" and would be much easier to hide said holes down the road.

Also if the chiller is older, it's worth it to upgrade, those old models were power/heat hogs.
I have central AC but there is none in the fish room, which is next to the garage.

1. Outside chiller: easy to drill the holes and you won’t see them. I can buy a small plastic container / shed (with ventilation) to protect the chiller from the element. Chiller is a 3/4hp Tradewind

2. Mini-split: I will hire pros to install it. It will make the room comfortable and help control temp for the frag tank as well. Last year, I frantically put a portable 10k BTU unit next to the window since it got to 90F in our area for a few days!

I’m leaning into #2 vs chiller tbh.

If all goes well, I will have solar before summer and have batteries to protect the whole house in case of future power outages. The last solar people messed up my roof so hoping this round will be successful!

ORP Update - looks like the new probe is working out great. I’ve changed O3 to stop at 400mV

I’m still running at 30% intensity for 2 hours at night.

Glad it worked out. Looks like it leveled out. Let’s see a pic with a filter for clarity

Naso Tang question — I have a Blonde and Brown Naso; N. elegans and N. lituratus, respectively. How to determine the sex - the male has streamers? If so, that would be cool.

They’re a pair now - woohoo!

Thanks. I was pulling my hair out while worrying about nuking the whole tank! lol

I’ll take some pics this weekend and compare before/after.

Your ORP jumps that much for only using 2 hrs at 30% ozone. I run my ozone for 1 hr at 50%, and it doesn't even move my ORP. LOL.
No it did not. The jump was when I swapped out my ORP probe! I’m home today and going to run for 3hrs to see if I hit 400. I might increase to 40% and see.

What is your max to cut off O3?

AC situation: I think I’m good — it doesn’t get hot often so I’ll just get a window AC unit ($600) and just ghetto-style this during the scorching SoCal summer, 72F most of the time with some rare weeks in the 80s! ;)

I saw some 14000 BTU units w/ WiFi selling for only $600 - it’s rated for 700SF and my fish room is < 500SF. I can store it when not in use.

LOL, okay, that makes a lot more sense. There is no way the ozone can pop the ORP on a water volume your size.

I don't calibrate my ORP probe, so I'm not sure what my real ORP is. I'm currently at 250-270's. I set my ORP cut off at 375. Like I said, I only run it very short amount of time to make the water clear. My ORP doesn't really move, but it may because my UV runs at about the same time...and the UV's ballast RF is messing with my ORP probe. I'm trying to fix that now.

Hi Jimbo
What air dryer are you using?
I just use a simple desiccant chamber. I'm on the fence on getting an actual heated air dryer. I know you have one, let me know how it works. I think it may be a little overkill on my system because I don't run it that long.

I use a jumbo canister as the air dryer as well. I haven't used it at all yet. I'm waiting to get a deeper cycle. My plan is to use the ozone for about one hour at night. I have been looking at the dual stage IQ version so I don't have to regenerate media. It is a bit pricey and I have coral and fish to buy!

My ORP was like yours (250-270) using the Milwaukee. When I switched to the PinPoint, it shot up by 100. It’s likely that you’re in my range before and when it’s 375, you’re likely 475? I think it’s safe to set it at 350 (450)? However, like you said, it doesn’t change so why bother, right? It’s just a safety feature - just in case something is stuck.

Gonna have to wait till the end of the year. I did just hit up the lfs yesterday though. More to come ;)
Honestly for me, it’s just a “toy” and you get water clarity as a side effect. I doubt that it will kill parasites in the tank, or enough to make sure it’s pure and clear of diseases — wouldn’t that be something?

It’s my first time ever with ozone so it’s fun, just like my first CaRx. Now I run one on every tank. Would I do Ozone on all tanks going forward? Hmm unlikely. I believe that Ozone is just another tool to help with water clarity. Don’t expect more from the device to iradicate diseases.
