So I am debating on a baby banded cat shark. This one just hatched, like 4 days ago or so. My concern is the tank mates it will be going with. The big one is a plumieri, I am worried about the plumieri eating the shark pup.

What can I do to help this out and have it work?

Sometimes new hatched sharks don't eat, so that is something to consider. If you have a sump put it in there, use a breeders basket or section off an are with lighting defuser.

It will go into its own tank or QT/observation tank to begin with. Feelings will start there, not in the big tank.

What is the growth rate like? Could it be possible to house the shark in a separate tank till it's big enough?
Cat sharks are awesome animals!

+1 on sometimes they won't eat. My brother hatched an egg years ago and it never ate.

I passed on getting this guy. I assume the 180 would be large enough for a decent amount of time, then I would build a tank for this guy if need be. However, after talking it over with my pred peeps, we decided he would probably end up lunch for my plumieri. Not worth the risk in my opinion. Maybe I will try one later down the road.
