So I had three Cardinals one died which was from my damsels that have since been removed. I have two left the bigger one I guess is bullying the smaller one so bad that I had to separate them. I put the bigger one in the sump and the smaller one is still in the tank. Is there anything I can do to make them coexist together?

Evening,

Sorry to hear about the loss. Love cardinals. Think they are overlooked.

I have 2 thoughts. ( that’s a lot for me:D).

My first is when you mentioned size difference is you have a male and female. They will do that but also become a mating pair. I have 2 pajamas that are 10 years plus. They chase and fight big time, torn fins and all. I have also seen the male holding eggs.

The second idea is you have 2 of same sex, different size. With 3rd gone the 2 have started fight.

Never thought about that. I’m gonna keep them separated for a few more days the rejoin them together if they start fighting I guess I need to try and find another cardinal or two?

Any idea on how to tell gender?

You may want to see how bad they are fighting.. The male has more of a bulldog face to hold eggs. I will see if I can find some pics.
