I want to see what ideas you all can come up with to turn this candy cane siphon into a swappable attachment (remove the candy can part and replace with something else when desired) that can scrape the bottom of vermetid snails and corraline while also preventing rubble or snail shells from going into the hose and clogging it at the first kink! What do you guys have?

I wouldn’t scrape the bottom. That’s a pain in the butt. Let it show the signs of a established system. As far as the hose, you can make a PVC hook, but make sure it fits tighter to the glass or it will move all over the place. The hose would be better if silicone tubing was used. Something thick walled that is flexible, but not thin enough to collapse.

I use this tubing for my cleaning and siphoning. Works very well, easy to roll up, and priced fairly.

I made this a few years ago, but never do water changes anymore. You can see what I mean by tighter to the glass when you compare it to your pic above.

The candy cane siphon I have works great for me and the thickness of my eurobracing and canopy as well as the bar on the front of my stand. I will be scraping the bottom for vermetids so curious on what tools anyone can come up with for that. I may just build a heat-flattened piece of PVC tubing and see how that works.

Honestly let it go and just suck up detritus until coraline algae starts taking over. When I scrape bare bottoms I use a box razor at a 30 degreeish angle and slowly go to town staying away from the silicon on the edges.
