I really appreciate the support, it’s been a heck of a week with trying to arrange all of the “after” things. I can’t believe how many of you replied so quickly or at all lol so thank you.
Merry Christmas @ahiggins We’re all here for you if you need anything.

Just stay focused and positive! I know how you feel. I lost my grandpa and grandma while I was overseas on two different tours. Life deals us some tough times but you will persevere! If you need to talk, send me a pm anytime. Merry Christmas

Thank you, it was an honor serving! (I was an Air Force Firefighter) Thank all of you for being amazing people! Well worth defending our freedom along with other nations freedoms. AHiggins I hope your doing better! As for anyone in this group that needs to talk or need help hit me up. I’m open ears and I have some crazy stories myself LOL! Merry Christmas everyone!!

Thank you, to everyone who offered support and kind words. Christmas Day was hard on my family but we are doing better (and so am I). I appreciate everyone sharing their story! There are so many people who have been through terrible things.

I’ve been getting back to my normal, quilting and reefing lol and it’s encouraged me to live more for the now.

Hello,

I’m very sorry for your loss and I commend you for reaching out. We all have experiences but that would be wrong for me to take this moment from you. Nothing will fill the void of a lost one. What your feeling is sadly normal. Things you may try to get past the downside is doing things you both did, or remembering good times and events. Doing something special each year just for him (I don’t mean let’s celebrate ones passing), I may sound out of my mind but i lost a good friend and she and I always played chess. I still go where she is at and set up a chess board. I’m not insane but helps me cope with my friend being gone. Yes I have to think where she is going to move and she always wins.

But it’s okay to mourn, one can mourn for life and it doesn’t go away. It does get a little easier, but even if you two went to a place together coffee shop, toy store who knows, maybe try doing some of the things you remember them fondly of.

edit or as you posted finishing the quilt. That’s a good start.

For those of you who watch the “this is so pleasing to watch”, here’s the backsides of the patches. My grandma calls it “stained glass”. My grandpa always said he wanted a quilt of the backsides because he loved looking at how it was made.
The last block of this will be an inside out single patch that will be buried with him.

Good morning ahiggins

Lots of us pulling for you, and apparently each other.
We're all seeing loss, even at this special time is too common.
Appreciate your willingness to share your pain.
How did you fare so far?
I also have been wondering how u are doing. I hope u got thru day with more smiles than teardrops. R2R people are always here for you anytime day or night

Sorry to hear of your loss, it hurts - we all know, we all feel loss at times (as you can see by the responses) On the other side of that coin you had the privilege of sharing times with your grandfather and it's obvious he had an impact on your life. Take what he instilled in you and use it to your advantage, you'll be thanking him daily.

Hi, saw the quilts. Nice. I used to love needlepoint when I was young. I forgot how to do it. Plus no way I could see those little holes anymore.
