I don't know what these awful dots are, but after scraping them off they are back in force within a week. They cover just about everything, the overflow, rock work and all 4 sides of the glass. They definitely have a crunch feel when you're scraping them off the glass. (none in the sump yet luckily)

Are they barnacles? More importantly, what can be done about them? They're more annoying than

I've always had them in every tank. They look to me like some sort of vermetid snail relation. Don't know what they really are though. Tagging along to find out :)

I agree, on the 2nd photo you can see some coils in them. What a pain. I didn't have to scrape them until recently and now it seems like I can't keep them under control. I'd really like to find out what they are and what can be done about them.

They definitely look like spirorbid worms, so that gets us a lot closer. Does anyone have the magic bullet that will keep me from having to scrape these things off my glass on a weekly basis?

Also - I know people say they are harmless filter feeders, but my back and scraping arm beg to differ! :D

In my experience, they typically go away with time. I usually only see them in large numbers during the first few months of a new tank.

Ok thanks. My tank is a year old now, but my coralline just really started taking off as well, so maybe mine was just a late bloomer.
